Very odd issue, pulls right in 4wd, left in 2wd
Hey Guys,
Just bought my first T4R back on Memorial Day. 2008 Limited V6, 3inch Toytech, 33inch Goodyear Duratracs. Been a great car and put stoptech brakes on it. Just got an alignment, tire balance and tire rotation. While coasting it tracks perfectly straight, the second i hit the gas in 2wd, it will pull left. The second i take my foot off the gas, it straightens back out. Now we got snow here lately and tried out the 4wd. Once engaged, it the opposite happens. It will pull hard right, and once i let off the gas, it will straighten out. I checked the tie rods and they seems perfectly fine. Any suggestions? https://photos.app.goo.gl/FTLNbxAT2xpmWvVP6 https://photos.app.goo.gl/P1xy71ivnu92MvCz8 |

Did you do the lift, or the PO? Do you know what else he/she did to it? Specifically, did someone put an automatic locker in the front? That in conjunction with a non working ADD (auto diff disconnect) would explain the hard right pull in 4wd.
Jack up both front wheels, put it in 4wd (run the engine briefly so the ADD presumably engages) and then shut it down and try to turn one front wheel. The other wheel should turn freely in the opposite direction. If you get different results than that, let us know details and we'll go from there. I can't explain the pulling left in 2wd, except for maybe a dragging brake. Maybe a limited slip in the rear acting funny. |

I jacked it up and put it in 4wd and let it run. Did the tire spin and the opposite side turns opposite so that all checks out. Did check the tire pressure as we’ve gotten into a very cold spell and made them all exactly the same psi which seemed to help a bit. I did upgrade the brakes as 3 of the 4 were frozen. It brakes perfectly straight and don’t feel a brake problem is it |
If your caster #s are not close to the same, it will create a R or L pull.
Mine are off a quite a bit and does the same. Slight right 2wd, straight 4wd. |
Did it do this before your alignment or did it only start afterwards?

Just curious, have you checked your lower control arm bushings? Mine were shot and I had problems keeping it straight under hard acceleration or braking.

It was time I rotated the tires anyways and noticed a bounce in the wheel. Got them all balanced and the shake was gone but still pulled. Snow was coming so I engaged 4wd to see if it worked still and it did but then pulled right under acceleration. Take my foot off the gas and it immediately goes back to center and drives straight. It feels like the body is torquing or flexing under acceleration. Light or Hard. You can legit see the front end shift right or left depending on 2wd or 4wd and then bounces back once no more gas is applied. |
