Front recovery points
 
Soooo, my rusted tie down point at rad support literaly exploded when my truck was stuck and buddy was whinching me out of deep mud.
Now i'm in the market for proper recovery points and since i'm on a extremely cheap budget and rusted rad support that i can't replace now. I want to weld 2 recovery points on top of the r-bar behind front bumper cover, right on the top.

im missing one of those too, looks like it exploded as well. interested in your solution...i might get a bolt on front point sometime. the remaining one on the front and soft shackle i hope can hold work if i need to get recovered until then. i keep hitch shackle in my recover gear as well.

speaking of recovery points, does anyone know if the loop tucked up under the rear, near spare tire is a recovery point?

This is nice, but if your rad support is rusty I wouldn't take a chance bolting this there. Mine is 2005 and my rad support can only hold rad in place with that much rust. Also last time my truck was stuck going downhill in mud and that recovery point wasn't accessible, it's tucked too deep.

Its bolted directly to the frame. I dont think the rad support is going to hold up to any recovery points.

Here is where the d-rings stick out from. they might be kind of low especially if you go muddling. Might have to get a little dirty. But for other things it should be easily accessible.

BTW - I believe those are OEM tie down points (for shipping), not recovery points. Mi .02

I feel your pain. My towhook pulled off in my hand as the last owner had literally bondo'd it back on....

Cut out basically the entire left side of the support and then rebuilt it with new metal. It's honestly probably stronger now lol

The rest of my frame is solid, but coolant had leaked here for a while and destroyed it. I'd definitely recommend getting something like this done if you can, so that the rest of the support doesn't crumble away. Maybe even replace the entire support if it's too far gone.

^^This is my understanding as well, both the fronts and the rears are for shipping tie downs, none of mine are rusted other than minor surface rust, but just looking at them and how they are attached and made of I wouldn't trust them as true recovery points, granted if not badly rusted they will work for minor pulling on but for getting a heavy stuck 4TH Gen T4R unstuck I don't think they are strong enough.

I’ve heard that theory and can’t speak to Toyota’s intent, but if those are just tie-down points, they’re the most over engineered examples ever.

That's exactly what i will do, mine also has some "meat" left that I can weld to. Was it a mig welder that you used?

These look like one possibly took some inspiration from the other design-wise. I have no experience with either, I just wanted to share some options
