CTHome is now selling a rack and ladder for $1,300 and they look like nothing I've ever seen before :pound:

At first I was like, this guy must have been under a rock. Then I saw :pound::pound::pound:

I notice their 4Runner has Chinese plate and tags because they are in China. That's pretty awesome because I never saw any 4Runners when I was in China.

When can I buy a car trim home T4R? Just completely skip the dealership?

I don't know why you would want to do this. It looks just like the Gobi rack and the price is what $1300 compared to $1500? I have saved $ in some things but I wouldn't do that. now if it were $700 I might consider it...

Plus they have 10+ photos of all their other products but only 5 very shitty pics of the roof rack. I wonder how quickly it would break

The Gobi is stupid over-priced to begin with, it should be a $700-1000 rack to start. Yet people still buy it.

The price on this won't stop people from buying it because they also might have better lead times than Gobi even shipping overseas.

I haven't gone through the trouble of estimating the manufacturing cost of a Gobi style rack, but on first blush, I'd say it's not cheap. Outside of the relatively simple bending operations, you're left with 50+ welds to perform. Then you need large spray booths and powder coating ovens. When it's all done, you have pretty high freight costs (which Gobi bakes into the price).

A lot of the other full length racks on the market feature EDM cut sheet metal side rails and cut extruded aluminum cross bars. It's almost all cutting and drilling operations. The finished product can then be flat packed and shipped unassembled. So the shipping costs a lower and the lion's share of the assembly is passed on to the customer.

I can't wait for them to send the racks to YT influencers who will rave about the rack and offer a "promo" code.

You mean the ones that manage to go through 3 bumpers, 4 sets of rims, 8 light bars and 2 roof racks in the span of 6 months? In any case, "... be sure to like, comment and subscribe! If you'd like to see more gear reviews like this, consider supporting me on Patreon!"

C'mon now. It features "Heavy Duty sturdy Metal Construction"! That means it's built to last.
(Type of metal and construction techniques not specified)

I dont' know why y'all be hatin on CTH. If it weren't for them - where would you get your leather floor mats?

Jetboy 01-30-2020 11:25 PM

If anyone was curious about the markup. Here's the manufacturer's offer. $250-350 each. Plus about 1,500 to get a container load to the west coast. I like how they even have the gobi sticker in the ad.

I'd be tempted at $300 not at $1300.
