5th Gen 72k Miles, Oil Filter Leaking, Need Help

2013 4Runner with only 72K Miles. I just changed my oil on Friday, second time I've done it myself to save money. First time, with no issues. Changed the oil filter and put in new synthetic OW-20 oil. No leaks on the driveway overnight. Drove it 300(ish) miles and lost about a quart of oil, whole underside and back window is oily.

Oil looked to be coming from top of filter housing. Everything was tightened to torque specs. Removed the filter and double checked that the gasket wasn't double and it wasn't. Replaced the filter and gasket at the bottom of the threading and put back on. But it's still leaking and I'd like to rule out everything before taking it into a shop.

Need help, has anyone else seen this before?

Maybe a crap is the cheap plastic oil cap? There is an aluminum replacement that's well worth the $20 price tag.

I thought that might be it. Is there a way to check that or too difficult unless fully cleaned and maybe blowing air on it? Also, how could that happen? Too much pressure by a past person tightening it? I guess that would be me because it wasn't leaking before me.

Crap was supposed to be crack lol. Yes, likely a clueless dealer oil change tech which there are daily posts about on here and every other forum. They spin them on and off with a gun, they couldn't care less about your property. Very possible the crack was started and you may have finished it off. Did you double and triple check the base o ring is in place properly and not cut?

Haha. I figured. :)

Dang techs.....wish they cared more. Hope that's all it is and an easy replacement. Worth $20 to try I think. Would I get the part just at O'Reilly's or Amazon?

Correct. When I took off the first replacement after it was leaking, I checked the gasket and it was in perfect shape. I then replaced the filter and gasket again just in case and checked it and it was all good. The gasket is right where it should be at the bottom of the threads.

I'm sure your local dealer stocks them but I ordered mine from Amazon.
