Advics brake pads

Has anyone used Advics brake pads as a replacement for there Toyota Originals. Apparently Advics is the original equipment manufacturer for Toyota 4Runner brake pads and was wondering if the compound was the same.

ADVICS AD0976 - Front
ADVICS AD0606 - Rear

My 2017 came with ADVICS as OEM on the front brakes, and Akebono on the rear.

It would be hard to answer your question without someone inside ADVICS. OEM pad makers will typically use different formulas for the Aftermarket, usually as a cost savings (OEM pads must pass specific testing, whereas Aftermarket pads have no testing requirements). Even if they use the OEM formula, they can register a separate Aftermarket designation to hide that fact. A check on the NSF website shows 312 registered formulas for ADVICS North America. I doubt they produce 312 unique formulas, and would assume some are just renamed.

I realize this doesn’t help you much, but thought you’d like to at least see a response. Hopefully someone who’s used the pads you’re asking about will reply.

I haven’t but just go with Akebono and be done with it. They’ve been widely accepted as an exceptional pad and I can tell you after lots of use with mine...they’re everything they’re hyped up to be. It’s a trusted brand with trusted results. You can get them from a bunch of sources too. Mine came from amazon at a great deal.

I know this doesn’t answer your question but in my extensive research, I haven’t come across the brand you’re inquiring about.

FWIW Akebono is undergoing Bankruptcy in Japan. They lost their big contract with GM:

Interesting you have Akebono on the rear. Is your 2017 a ORP, SR5 or limited?

Personally I didn't have a good experience with Akebono on a previous SUV.

It's an ORP.
