The fj's are in demand here in colorado for sure.and hold their value really well. I read on the forum some one who bought it for 26k and sold it a few years later for the same price.

you can also KBB it. also keep in mind that car is currently in possession of a dealer. generally speaking dealer pricing is always more than private party.

a car is only worth as much as someone willing to pay for it.

I hope so! We have a 2011 we bought new. Love it- just needed more room for traveling so we just bought a 2019 4R also.

Not looking to buy. Just snooping in a small newspaper called the Hungry Horse News and stumbled across it. Either they over-priced it by $15k, or they really are holding their value. I'll give them this: it is a very nice example.

i was surprised to see how high that one was at that VW dealership. it is quite a nice rig. i googled 2014 fj msrp and here is what KBB had to say:

From the info you provided, it seems that they do hover around $28k-$30k in good condition. That surprises me, but I get it. With the small population of the area, they may get a good price for it, since a person would have to travel a couple hundred miles or more to find something comparable.

if they use salt on the roads in montana and this car is from montana, i wouldnt buy it. they didnt include any undercarriage shots, so who knows what its like.

i see a lot of people who live in rust belt states drive to a state such as, California to get a clean car and bring it back with them. some even hire towing companies to haul it back to them after its been inspected.

one of the only good things about CA is the amount of cars there are in the state; from what i have seen, certain cars in CA will always be cheaper due to the abundance of them. combine that with no snow/rust issues and its clear why people come from out of state to buy a CA car.

some people can break even or come out saving a little money buying a car from CA if its cheap enough and having it hauled back. ive seen it happen a few times in the lexus world (people looking for the 'rare' manual variant of the IS300. there's usually a bunch here, but not a lot in the mid west).

I've only been in Montana once or twice in the snow, years ago. With the population density being so light, I don't think they salt much like they do here in the Midwest. Plus, the humidity is typically very low. High humidity accelerates rust and also the effects of salt. I assume the local buyers would be aware of their conditions. I do know that rusty cars are almost unseen in Montana.

I think this is more of a case of wishful thinking than reality. Ive seen more FJ's sell for $8-13k from the 07-10 years, and $15-18k for anything post 2011. When you really dig down and compare a similar year 4runner, the prices are pretty close in almost every case.

I loved my FJ, and in some ways like it more than the new 4runner, but man i do love the extra space.

KBB on my 2011 FJC with 110,000 mi is 22K for a private party sale. And that doesn't include some of the add-ons they don't have a category for.

I traded my 2012 FJ in 2017 and received $24,500 for it, but since I only paid $28,900 for it from the same dealer and it had about 35K miles on it and needed tires, I thought that was a good hold on its value.

as for the price of $33K for a 2014, you really did not tell what sort of options it had, so it is somewhat hard to say if that is a reasonable price or not.

Gotta be honest. The FJC is the only car I’ll buy when I need to replace my 4R. The thing is that it feels so damn cheap. The door handles feel they could easily break off. The dash feels like it might break if I put any slight pressure on it. Everything feels so flimsy. Oh, and I seem to remember a rip appearing on the inside of the engine bay walls. Does that still happen?

People can ask whatever they want but that does not mean they will get it. An FJ is probably worth a little bit more than a 4Runner of the same vintage (because there were fewer FJs), but $47K is new 4Runner money or even used Land Cruiser money.

depends on the year! some of the newer/rare ones are but the 08s can be picked up real cheap
