Sunday 12/29 - Coyote Canyon in Anza-Borrego

I'm doing Coyote Canyon (Lower) in Anza-Borrego Sunday morning 12/29.

If anyone wants to join me, meet where the paved road ends (Di Giorgio Road) at 10 AM.

My plan is just to enjoy the road and water crossings, maybe take some pictures, have lunch... then maybe try another trail on the way back towards San Diego if I can find something that I won't get bogged in.

@jimmynotjim @4runnerfiend @2112 R (folks who came out and joined me on some trails last year)

I’ll have to check with the wife to see. Water crossings should be high I’d think with all the rain and snowfall as of late.

High water crossings is why I’m going!! :-)

(So long as they’re not TOO high!)

Thanks for the invite. Still traveling for the holidays.
Take pics and post trail conditions if you head out there, very curious to hear how the desert has changed with all the rain etc.

John threw up a short go pro vid on the SD 4runner FB page.
Looks like a nice crew showed and was fun. Can't wait for the drone shots and more pics.

@4runnerfiend -- Hey, Chase, yeah I wasn't sure from your post whether you were going to make it or not... but we were at the end of the pavement, getting ready, for 20-25 minutes and no one else showed up, so we headed out.

It was just 3 vehicles--5 people, 2 dogs, 1 GoPro, 1 drone! We had fun. The trail is in good shape. Water crossings were lower than I would have liked, but there was still water in them. Nothing too hard on that trail. The rocky hill is the most difficult... and it's not difficult. Beautiful area. We saw signs that Middle Willows (out some ways back in there) was closed due to deep mud, so of course we took the turn for Middle Willows! (We would have turned back if we'd encountered truly deep mud--no winch on any of the vehicles.) No mud nor any closure. Middle Willows was the most challenging of the various trails we took back in there--I put a few more dings and scrapes in my skid plates.

At the very end of the trail, way back in there, we met a guy named "Mountain Mike" who says that he's been living out there for three years now (moving around; not that one spot). He was either completely crazy or completely brilliant... or maybe both.

I had a new GoPro attached to the roof of my vehicle and a guy named Patrick was flying a drone. I'm hoping to edit something together and post it this week.

John
