What is your oil pressure at idle with a warmed up engine with hot oil?

For those of you with oil pressure gauges. Please post your oil pressure at idle with a engine that has its oil up to temp.

Curious as well. Also in to see what kind of gauges people have.

Curious myself on what oil port, what thread pitch, what electric sending unit and gauge combo’s folks have.

this is adapter you will need.

Toyota to Aftermarket Oil Pressure Gauge Adapter

this is where you will want that adapter

I just have a test one

Engine Oil Pressure Test Kit

once I have verified the pressure I will remove it. you can leave this one on the truck and just tuck it over by the battery and drive around. then check pressure whenever you want.

Any one know what the threads are for this pressure gauge block port? I like to get a T so I can port in a A/M gauge or tester from time to time. Could make a decent mod and have a dash oil pressure gauge like years past..:-)

Dieselchessy 01-08-2020 11:27 AM

What did you do with the factory sending unit when you connected the aftermarket one in it’s place?

This is a 1/8” BSP thread T.

Better description on this one of it containing both NPT for aftermarket sender and BSP for OEM sender.

1/8" BSPT Oil Pressure Sensor Tee to NPT Adapter Turbo fits Lexus Toyota Mazda | eBay

The China seller add uses some of the same images as the US seller add.

like I posted above

1/8" National Pipe Thread to 1/8" British Standard Pipe

5vz has BSP and most aftermarket stuff in US is NPT

I have the yota shop one and it works fine. it's a bit tight in that spot but it does fit.

Thanks @sleepydad and@ Dieselchessy. I am liking that threaded one as we don't have a lot of space in that area as sleepydad pointed out. :-)

I would have both the OEM one in and the A/M digital one in. I have no reason for a mechanical if I am going to place one in my console. I like that we can just put some thread tape on and nipple that off if need be as well. :-)

I ordered the adapter Tee. And will redo my install when it arrives.

Bump to the top. Anyone with an oil pressure gauge installed on the 3.4l?

I have one. And to answer the OPs question at idle I see 4 to 6 lbs of pressure. Rubbing down the highway at 2500 rpm it's around 45 or 50 and max I've seen it was 80 at redline. My sensor is installed in the port that's lower down on the block than the factory pressure switch.

Coming from the world of small block Chevy's where they typically have 30 to 40 psi at idle the super low pressure freaked me out but the fsm specs 4 lbs as normal and the warning light comes on at 2lbs

This is for my 3rz, not what you need but maybe informative.

14 psi at hot idle RPM and 70 psi at 3,000 RPM.

These may not be exact as I bought a cheap gauge. I used the harbour freight cheapie oil pressure tester while replacing the sender due to dripping oil.

210k put the gauge on at 190k and haven't seen it change.

Dieselchessy 01-11-2020 10:43 AM

Black798,

Would you tell us what sensor/gauge you installed?

I see lots on the net but it seems to be $30 China stuff or a jump to $200 race stuff.
A little leery of the China stuff, afraid the sensor may spring a leak, and the sensors look big.
