Delaminating steering wheel

So my factory leather steering wheel cover is coming apart right at the 11-1 position. I hate aftermarket covers but can't stand the way this one feels. I had a wheelskinz cover sewn on my old bronco but you had to cut the factory cover off to install it then that made the diameter a little too small. Anybody on here addressed this on theirs?

I left my original leather cover in place when I put my wheelskins cover on but I had to stretch it out a good bit for the seam to fully close. The smarter approach what have been taking a diameter measurement of my steering wheel thickness then getting the correct size cover. I prefer a thicker steering wheel too which is why I didn't remove my original cover.

Yeah that's what I was thinking of doing. I know it's kind of a dumb thing to worry about but it drive me nuts!

That's what I did with the one wheel cover. Lots of junk yard steering wheels out there as well.

On my other runners I put wheel covers on to prevent lamination

You might check out these guys:

Steering wheel restoration | Custom-Steering-Wheels | United States

They can refinish your wheel or sell you a DIY kit custom made for your exact wheel. I did it for my daughter's Corolla and it came out nice. It's some work--you have to strip the old wheel, but it beats a normal sew on.

I bought this steering wheel cover to replace the badly perished stock one. I chose this one because it covers the spokes too, unlike the wheelskins covers. I rest my fingers on the spokes a lot, so I didn't want a weird seam there. It's a somewhat tricky, labor intensive install, but it came out pretty well. Not perfect, but TONS better than the ruined stock one, and not bad for less than $50.

Somebody else (maybe more than one?) on here used this seller on eBay for a replacement leather cover that fits like OEM:

Not even sure why I have it saved in my eBay watch list... as I have the non-leather wheel! :biggrin1:

I myself prefer the leather wheels great to see it's that cheap to redo them . :)

For the record, that guy (Alan Gun) is the same fellow whose direct web site I posted in #5 above. Recommend either way. I had to interact directly with him because the Corolla involved was Brazilian market and we both wanted to be sure we got the right kit. He was super helpful and friendly.

Alan Gun did mine too. It looks great. It’s worth the money. Should have done it years ago. Super easy to work with too. If someone finds a heated option I’d be interested to hear about it.
