Sherpa Crestone Rack Install/Review
Just wanted to put up a quick review for the Sherpa Crestone rack because they don't seem to get much airtime on the forums and it seems to be a really nice product. Sherpa seems to be a pretty young company but these guys have made an excellent rack. The fit, the way it attaches to the truck and the look are all spot on. It took almost exactly 5 weeks to ship from when I ordered.
They provide rubber feet and bonded rubber washers for the stock attachment points, which should provide a great long-term solution to weather proofing without the need for silicone, etc. Instructions are good, with a few points that could need clarification: 1. The taller mounting feet go in the back 2. The bonded washers go rubber side down (I hope!) 3. The rubber standoffs have a correct orientation (look at how the holes are not exactly centered). I was missing Qty 4 1/4-20 lock nuts, which was annoying but easily solved by a trip to the hardware store. The rear bar clears the shark fin (barely). The other bars can be put about wherever you want them. I put them about 10" apart from each other, and left the sunroof area open. I ended up with an extra cross bar due to this. https://www.noxcomposites.com/pics/4runnerrack.png |
Looks good!
Also looks like they ordered a Prinsu and copied the entire thing. |
there are only so many ways to skin that cat. All the extruded aluminum racks look pretty similar to me. But having had a prinsu before I feel the Sherpa is a step up. However Prinsu seems to ship faster and may be a little cheaper.
1. No silicone required 2. The front feet/pads are adjustable 3. The fit/gap/level are better 4. 3” extrusions versus 2” 5. Cross bars can be put in more places 6. No silicone required |
Thank you for this review. I’ve been looking closely at the Sherpa rack. I really appreciate your feedback and experience. I’ll probably be ordering one of these in the next month or so. By the way, nice looking 4Runner!

... Thanks for the review. Do you have a photo of the "bonded washers" and how they work? This rack seems like a great choice because of the mounting system ... just curious how they work.

Thanks for the review. Was leaning towards this rack when I decide to do one. I like the non drilling and the lack of need for silicone.

The Sherpa is on my short list. Please let us know if any issues arise.

Dig it. One thing that really surprised me with our Frontrunner and many other racks is the sort of "after thought" that seemed to be given to waterproofing, future rust issues etc. This looks like a great solution for 99% of users.

will this rack/slats accommodate a Thule cargo box?

Thank you for the kind words! The truck looks great, and we are glad the install went smoothly. We apologize for the missing hardware, we try hard to avoid it but sometimes it happens.
If anyone has any questions about the rack or the install feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email. |
