2020 TSS-Equipped T4R's & Complete Bumper Replacement
I just picked up a 2020 TRD ORP accompanied with one of those hideous rectangular TSS sensors on the grille, and wondering just how much of a damper it's going to put on a complete replacement of the front bumper.
I did some reading and from what I gather, this sensor is specifically for the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) element of the overarching Toyota Safety Sense package/features. Is that indeed true? On a related note, I've been told by more than one aftermarket company that I can simply "unplug" this radar sensor and do away with it on the rig entirely without worry of the dashboard lighting up like the 4th of July. Any personal experience or truth to that? At worst, I will concede defeat to TSS and be relegated to a "slimline" bumper like the ones put out by Southern Style. At best though, I'd axe the radar sensor entirely and do a complete steel bumper replacement. Going forward, I have got to think Toyota will incorporate all of the TSS elements into the safety sensors behind the windshield up by the rearview mirror -- not unlike what Subaru does with their EyeSight safety feature. Rant over :) |
I think it’s to early to get a answer but when you’re all in about it than give it a try and disconnect the sensor and take a drive, it won’t destroy the tss.
I would be more worried if that could interrupt with insurance policies, maybe I’m silly but since insurance companies rather spend money on manager bonuses then insurance claims I would check that out before. I can already hear them arguing like: “your house was equipped with fire sprinkler and you disconnected the system an now you ask us to pay the burned down house”. - sure, that’s not really the same but you got the idea. |
I spoke with C4 fabrication a while back and they were working on a relocation "kit" for their full bumper to work with TSS. Not sure if there has been any progress or if it has been completed yet though. At this point I may just go with a low-pro bumper w/ high clearance mod.

Wondering about bumper options also as I have a 20 TRD ORP and want a replacement bumper. We have all the TSS stuff turned off and don't use cruise control.

What's the consensus on the taller bull bar? |
The higher bar is useful for additional protection of the radiator. I like it.

considering the area that it occupies, it's pretty easy to identify whether or not an aftermarket bumper will work or not. Victory makes a full bumper that doesn't impede on the TSS sensor area |

I think Toyota recommends that the ACC be disabled if you mess with or obstruct the sensors or lift the vehicle/change tire sizes.

Lil B's makes a TSS compatible full replacement bumper with no bar or full height bar. One of the best looking bumpers out there IMO
