Total cost of suspension, wheels, and tires upgrade & installation

Hey all, I'm new to the world of 4Runners (just bought my first one a month ago!) and off-roading in general.

I'm shopping around for prices on a suspension upgrade, new tires, and new wheels for my rig.

I've been quoted $4k for a Bilstein 5100's all around with OME springs both front and rear and SPC Upper control arms. The $4k is for ALL parts + installation, and includes the wheels and tires. They are BFG KO2's and TRD Pro wheels.

Is this reasonable? I'm completely new the world of mods and upgrades and don't want to get ripped off.

For those who may suggest I try the work myself, I live in a small studio apartment with no garage or space for tools :/

Thanks!

Quick breakdown
5100s w/springs. ~$800 (dobinsons $880 full kit)
TRD wheels ~$700
SPC uppers ~$540
KO2s ~$720 $800 for 285/70R17 on Amazon and Ebay

Total = $2,760. $2,820

So about $1,250 in labor - not horrible but I would shop around a little. Labor on this should be about 6-8 hours? Maybe can find someone local willing to work with you, teach you a few things for some pizza and brews? Make a buddy along the way!

I'd help but in Colorado.

Edit - if you're lifting 2"/2.5" or less could probably drop the SPCs and save a few bucks

ko2's are more like 1k. unless he puts on some P rated stock size ones. which seems silly.

$800 on Amazon for C load 285's - so I was a little off. I was also assuming prices of shopping around, or else the SPC's would've been stated a bit higher.

yea makes sense actually since you broke labor off separate (mount/balance)

I think that is reasonable presuming the shop is decent. Also, don't forgot to add another 100 bucks for alignment when all said and done. Be certain the alignment tech is well versed on SPC UCAs. Ask the shop for a referral if you don't already have someone in mind.

Thanks for the info guys!

Hmm. I'm in Canada so not sure if the comparisons are apples to apples.

My 5100s cost me $525
Toytech rear springs $200
285 duratracs $1200
Six shooters $850
Tpms $350
Tire install and balance was $85
Alignment $150
Install of everything was $450

So total was about $3800 CAD. And I dont have afternarker UCAs.

5100 can be found for $370 shipped for all 4.
front springs: $200 shipped
rear springs: $200 shipped
JBA UCA's $500 shipped
Wheels: that can range from $600 to $2k shipped depending on style.
Tires as quoted above: $800 shipped on amazon.
Tire and wheel mounting : $120
alignment: $100

That's $2890 without install. Install is easy and can be done in a day in the driveway with pretty basic tools and a jack and some stands.

Just my .02, Find some local guys in the regional forum or even Tacoma guys on face book. Get to know them and see when they will do a mod day or invite them over to help in stall for food and beer. I've been to a few guys homes I've never met before except on forums to help install stuff just b/c I believe in what goes around comes around and if I were in that position I would really appreciate the help.

4K ain't bad if you can't do it yourself or don't have the tools. I spent 340.00 on Bilsteins, 800.00 mounted and balanced 285 KO's, 400.00 spc's, and 50.00 for 1.5 Daystars in the rear, then 17x9 Mamba's for 720.00 and alignment 90.00.......so just under $2600. I would save on the TRD wheels buying used.

T3XAS4Runner 03-19-2020 01:09 PM

$4K is reasonable depending on the quality of shocks/springs. Since you're not doing it yourself and the kit includes UCAs, this is not crazy expensive. Don't know a bunch about Bilsteins but you could probably find a better deal on them or use the money for something a little better quality.

I’m in NYC/NJ area, got quotes $1K labor (5-7 hrs job) including alignment and tax to install front and rear Eibach Pro-Truck kit and UCA supplied by me. Seem a bit higher, waiting for another shop to back to me. What do you guys think?

Rather have a competent mechanic go at it. I don’t have the tools or space to do it myself.
