Apparent Next-Gen Toyota Lineup Leak: Turbo 86, New 4Runner, Hybrid Sienna - The Drive

Jernik 03-25-2020 08:54 PM

At the moment that makes me glad I picked up a v8 Tundra when I did.

But who knows. Given a few years for them to perfect it, a twin turbo V6 might be OK.

For the 4Runner it should be a great fit, but I'll keep my 4.0 for now.

But, but, did you see this in that article:

"and the Land Cruiser becoming a "stripped-out off-roader" made for hardcore outdoor folks with little in the way of luxury"

T4R2014 03-26-2020 03:36 PM

Nice clickbait.

Bull.

Shit.

This is such bullshit that I promise to buy two of these "stripped out off roaders" when they become available.

Also glad I have my 5.7 19 Tundra. Its a lease, but ill buy it at the end rather than trade it back in. Absoutlety love the truck.

I also dont think they will thake the 85K cruiser and strip it down, although that would be cool to be able to buy a LC like a roxor.

Gamma Ray 03-28-2020 05:49 PM

Meh. Turbo lag and higher pressures making things wear out faster. No thanks.

jross20 03-31-2020 12:51 PM

Oh please, so glad I don't have a new vehicle lol. Just going down hill

I've been holding off for the next gen tundra or bronco. Wife has a 17 4runner sr5 blacked out, TRD pro shocks from the $400 sale, added the trd skid plate as well. I love the suv and she does too. Tundra with twin turbo can be tuned fairly well to add more HP and torque. If I go this route its mainly for work around the house and family truck. I've tuned audi cars and enjoy them.

If toyota offered 0% financing due to covid-19 situation I'd consider picking up a 2020 trd pro.

Good luck driving it, or those GM vehicles as well. As we've seen on RichInRidgewood's posts, if the DMV is closed, then you're screwed. I'm pretty sure here in NJ you can't even buy one of those GM vehicles because only the service departments are allowed to be open.

They say this same bullshit every year an dit never happens.

I'm a big fan of boosted vehicles, but not for Offroad.

You know we're going to see a "land cruiser" badge stuck on something. Probably about like this:

or

Rav4 - TRD Pro Trail TTUE Land Cruiser 300 edition. Now with more badges!

FWIW the rough translation on price - this would cost around $43k USD. Not saying they will - but it's not totally impossible that they'd let us buy a base model in the USA.

I would buy this.

Even the 200 series.

I've have an 08 Tundra that I've had for 12 years and this has been a super reliable Truck. I've modified it just the way I wanted but I look forward to the new hybrid turbo Tundra. This truck with both an electric and a turbo v6 powerplant has the potential to be a monster vehicle for both towing and fuel economy. Depending upon the size of the battery and how Toyota optimizes their hybrid system for towing, fuel economy and performance it could be a beast of a truck. Ford is releasing a similar style 150 soon so I'm excited to see how they all stack against each other. I love the v8 in my Tundra but I hate the fuel economy of it. It isnt very efficient at towing my 10,000 lb tow hauler or cruising down the hwy as properly designed hybrid truck. The new world of small motors with turbos and electric powerplants is here to stay fellas and when fuel is over 5.00 a gallon everyone will sing a different tune
