I added an FJ to the fleet!

After a long search, I found what I was looking for! It had to be clean, no rust, and it had to be orange (magma).

The pics are from the ad and they just don’t do her justice. 38k miles from the original owner. More pics will follow if anyone is interested.

Will be a while until I get the nerve to take it off road - as I have with my 2017.

Thanks to this forum and the Cruiser forums for always providing great info.

Nice ride! Do you feel that the vehicles are different enough (compared to the 5th gen) that it is worth having both? I like the idea of buying an FJ but wasn't sure if it would be different enough from my 19 SR5 in a meaningful way regarding driving style, capability, etc.

Hey Wisco!

So far after having it for just one month, I feel enough of a difference that I consider it to be different driving experience compared to my 2017 4Runner. The interior and driving position are so unique that it makes the FJ different from a lot of vehicles. I actually like the seating position in the FJ more than the 4Runner. I'm not that tall (6'), but the extra headroom provides a more open feeling.

The drivetrain and response is, well, just about the same. You can notice a headwind coming at you, given its brick like shape. My stock FJ feels a bit more firm than my 2017 was in stock form.

In the end, they are both SUVs, with a frame, and made by Toyota. It has a Toyota feel. We were ok with adding another SUV as they really suite my family well at the stage we are at (2 kids and sports gear).

I will likely have more opinions in a few months. No regrets at all on the purchase, despite paying what you have to pay to get one. I've wanted one since they came out and should have bought one new. I found what I wanted by being patient and being willing to travel to get it (I live in VA and flew to FL to get it). They may command a price at any condition; but they aren't that rare... yet.

Hope that helps.

I am surprised by the small runs on your car.

This is sweet. Great color, too - you won't be passing yourself on the road very often. Personally, I'd be inclined to baby that thing, because I think it'll become collectible. That's just me, though. Enjoy!

Thanks! I almost wish it wasn't so nice, almost...

I take pretty good care of my stuff by nature. And I have a 2017 4Runner already set up to hit the trails.

I took one for a test drive. Really rough on the pavement compared to my Taco. It felt like i was riding my modified ATV.

Looks fantastic! Ive had my eye on those for a while but will prob end up w a 4Runner. I have to say the roof basket always looks perfect on these things.
