I have a clunk upon acceleration from a stop or when accelerating after coasting and think I found the culprit, but I can't find the part number for the life of me. I would call it a transfer case mount/support. When looking at the TC from the rear, it's on the right side and is made of rubber. Bonus points if you provide a part number! Here's a pic:

Transfer Case Dynamic Damper. P/N 33183-35050.

I always use japan-parts.eu if I need to look up part numbers. They have pictures and diagrams of everything so it's easy to navigate.

Transfer case vibration dampener. I doubt it's the source of your clunk, but you can remove it and test drive to see if that was your clunk.

I think the correct term might be thingamagigger but I could be wrong. It might be a doomaflache or a chingadera.

I would remove it and see if it fixes your issue, lots of people remove them and report no negative side effects

It helps with vibrations. There's also one downstream on your exhaust if it's still stock.

No ill affects if you remove it, just might be a little more noise or vibrations when driving.

OP,

I seriously doubt this part is causing your "clunk" issue, but if you want to get a replacement anyway, scour any pick-and-pull with a 4WD 4Runner and get it from there.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'll spend the money on a proper diagnosis and go from there.

how are your U joints? they can cause the issues you are describing

Dieselchessy 04-21-2020 08:01 PM

U-joints, driveline slip joint, 3rd member, upper or lower track bars, shocks, engine mounts, ect....

Lots of stuff could cause such a clunk.

Why not just Tighten the bolts holding it down?

It doesn't 'clunk' it rattles very nicely when loose, ask me how I know...

agree with above...every spring...and every fall....when I do a shake down service and prep for the next season and conditions....I crawl through everything and check to see if tight....
