4th Gen ARB Lockers

Let's talk front/rear lockers..

Who on here has recently (within the last year) installed or had an ARB locker installed on a 4th gen? Did you go with just the rear? I've read that the rear locker install should be fine with stock gears, but if you ever plan to regear, wait and do the front then.

Looking for some firsthand experience with the process. I see the rear locker is $999. Where did you get it from? Who installed it? Was it worth it?

Hey Florida Brother!!
I have no experience with a locker install on a 4th, gears and an ARB were in the plans, but you know..... put on hold for awhile until I can get back to work.

I did only the ARB locker on my 5th Gen back in July of 16'. I was headed up on an extended trip to the NC mntns to see some family and then on to Rausch Creek, PA for a 3 day weekend at the park.

I had already picked up the locker and compressor in a Group Buy (Total Automotive Performance in Vegas) and had the compressor w wiring already installed to save a few bucks. So on the way up to PA, I stopped in Raleigh and had East Coast Gear do the install of the locker and a steel braided air line. Good customer service up there, with a decent waiting room and a TV. Took them most of the day, 6ish hrs I want to say.
Very happy with the locker's performance up at Rausch that weekend, never had a problem, and it's still working well.
Don't know what your plans for the compressor are, but here is a mounting solution I came up with on my 4th gen. I have a similar mount on my 5th gen and it's been solid.

A rear locker is very nice, I'm jealous FJ's get them from the factory. ATRAC gets close to a locker in some situations but in others its not even close to a replacement.

With my front/rear lockers you can feel and hear all the tires biting, but sometimes I still get hung up by a rock, I need more clearance next.

Dude, thanks for sharing that write-up! That is so convenient and practical. My neighbor just installed his front locker from ECG and their customer service was great. I'll be moving up to SC in two months, and have considered driving up there and dropping it off for a day.

I have been considering the the onboard compressor to get proactive, as I won't be able to do the locker for another 6 months or so. Thank you for the detailed reply and tip man!

How long have you had the lockers? Did you do them both at the same time?
