Another suspension thread. Budget edition.

Looking for some insight.

I know almost nothing about suspension. I'm looking to level out the front and lessen front dive and body roll.

Would it be feasible to run Bilstein 6112s with a 1-2" lift with the stock rear suspension until I can get it upgraded?

Or would it make more sense to go 5100s both front and rear on stock springs?

Any help is much appreciated!

I would say start with the 5100 all around with stock springs and see how you like it.
I had 5100 all around with stock springs with a 1.75 front lift and 1in cornfed spacers in the rear and I like them. It gave me a good ride height and it fit my budget.
Also with the lift, what are you trying to do with your rig?

I'd rather be one and done if I can. I know I'm eventually going to do 5100 in the rear regardless if I do 5100 all around or with the 6112 up front.

Mostly pavement driving with occasional off-road. The only reason that I'm really considering the 6112s is that I've read the 5100s are stiffer than the 6112s and I don't think my wife would like such a stiff ride. Hah.

The 6112’s have a 2.5” (5100 has 2”) shock so its going to be a tad more comfortable but if you are looking for comfort then I would suggest getting some taller springs with close to stock spring rate instead of adjusting the preload on the bilstein shocks, it will make the ride stiffer. Or you should look into the eibach pro sport shocks which have been known to be much smoother.

Love my setup. Eibach Pro shocks on all 4 corners, 2.5” Wheelers T1 front coil and 2” OME 2895E rear coil. Pre-assembled and shipped for $840 from Wheelers Off-road. Rides great and budget friendly.

I just installed my front 5100’s and Dobinson 1.75” spring yesterday. Going to do the rear 5100’s and Dobinson 1” Today. It’s my wife’s ride so it won’t see much off roading if any at all. Just a pavement princess type thing, but I didn’t feel that much more stiffness on the drive home besides the decrease nose dive. Paid in the $700’s (can’t remember the exact cost) for the setup.

Another vote for the Eibach kit. I did shocks only on all 4 corners . Front at 1.6. Rides great, better than my friends Bilsteins. Nose dive eliminated. I went Eibach for the ride and their suspension experience.

I went 5100s up front set at .85, 5160 in the rear with stock springs all around and now I’ve got the driver side lean. Rides great though, and only nuts like me notice the lean.

The .85 lift was a great start, but now I’m after a 2/1 lift with 6112s because they allow you to set the front left corner higher to compensate for the notorious driver side lean and .85 just ain’t enough anymore. Springs alone on 5100s don’t seam to allow you to control for this, which is why I’m not just adding springs to the existing setup and calling it.

Learn from me and go 6112 right out of the gate.

Eibach. Rides great, cost is very reasonable.

Yeah, the 5100 can be a little stiff, but if you looking for something that your wife would enjoy, the 6112 are great and like what some people are saying the Eibach kit. I have a friend with the Eibach kit on his Lexus and it's a little more comfortable than the 5100s that I had.
Best 2 options I would recommend is either the Eibach kit or the 6112 with some longer springs (Like what @BIGpharma said) and in the rear you can do 5100 or 5160.

+1 and another vote for the Eibach kit (shocks and springs) :reddance:

Ride is awesome, Nose dive gone, cornering doesn't lean. Eibach sells the entire kit on this forum, not sure on the cost, but they had a wicked sale for black Friday.

i've been quite happy with my 5100s for over the last 3 years; I'm about to move to 6112 since i'm getting a new bumper, but it I wasn't i don't think i'd be messing with them. they ride well, cornering is fun

Arnezie 05-08-2020 02:10 PM

Go with the 6112 and forget about it. I’ve got them and the improvement is very noticeable.
