5vz-fe VIN?

Does the 5vz-fe have a VIN number stamped into the block? I'm buying a used motor and want to get as much back story as possible.

I have my motor out but won’t be home for a few hours. I’ll check it out and reply as soon I can.

VIN plate

The VIN plate is located on the driver side of the block, it is riveted. If you don't find it you might have a replacement engine. Unless you pull the engine from another vehicle you may not have a VIN plate. Most JDM engine will not have any VIN plate.

If you are buying an engine with unknown miles pull the valve cover it will usually tell you if it's well cared for and pull spark plugs and see the condition.

The vin will be on the original alternator attached to the block. I might be wrong but there is no other vin on the block.

edit. the tag on the alternator is the engine serial number.

Are you serious? Shit. I’ve wanted to keep my 4Runner all numbers matching. But my alternator went bad and was replaced a few years ago.

Thanks for helping him out! I’ve been slammed with sh!t to-do list all day! I’m barely going to eat dinner 🥵

My 97 had a VIN plate riveted also. My 96 engine that took a crap had the same plate but I couldn’t read it to tell anything about it’s history.

Not sure if peeps don't know that pass and driver side on the engine is viewed like ur sitting in the vehicle, only being this up as i have never seen the riveted vin on the driver side (only the passenger), unless it's diff based on something i am unaware of and its just been by chance all i have seen or on the pass if they have 1...
here's a pic of a 98 i'm working on

Not that it helps in this case but I learned that the frame stamp in the front wheel well shows the engine size it came with - VZN185 for 3.4 and RZN185 for 2.7 That's pretty obvious when you think about it. The last 6 digits are the vehicle's assembly line sequence number (and the last 6 of the VIN of course). Kind of a cool font.
