Oil filter stuck
 

I guess the dealer tightened the crap out of the oil filter on the last oil change. Not really sure what to do at this point seeing if anyone has any ideas. It’s in a super tight spot on my 2015 v6 Chevy Silverado (I know it’s not a t4r but you guys are pretty resourceful and I figured I’d ask here..)..

Basically it got like this from me sticking a screw driver through it and when I tried turning the screw driver it just ended up ripping the metal can instead of unscrewing the filter.

Spanner wrench, or trash a pair of needle nose pliers using them poked in the oil ports on the flange???

Were you turning the correct direction?

I prefer the oil filter removers that cup the end of the filter and fit a ratchet. Your well beyond that now though.

Try to get it turning with a screwdriver and hammer.

I’ve dealt with some stuck oil filters but this one for sure takes the cake.. lol.. tried that but I might try more tomorrow, it’s in a super tight spot I need to Jack the truck up a bit higher to give myself more space to swing.

Might give the needle nose pliers a try. 99% sure I was going in the correct direction lol..

Yeah as others said, I'd try some locking needing nose pliers, inserting each one into one of those holes, preferably at opposite sides, then once locked well, pointing straight down, I'd put a screwdriver sideways thru the plies for turning leverage, turning counter clockwise (as one looks up at it).

Yea, was thinking about welding one of my spare 4runner cv axle nuts on there.

Use the holes with this.

This would what I would try if you can keep from burning thru the filter housing

if the above ideas dont work here is another one

some of those nipples are replaceable...come out of block...keep that in mind

so take a dremel with a cutting bit..can be a spiral cutting bit like used in wood or drywall....sure they make them for metal or a grinding stone or disc
start at one of the holes and work your way to the nipple...then with the grove cut into it, spread it apart and expand it around the nipple
if needed drill a couple of holes in a line and use that and cut between the holes to make a "crack " to split...if needed do it from two sides...like 6 and 12...or just a couple holes near the nipple not as far as the existing holes and try to expand the filter housing around the nipple

If you hit the threads with the dremel and bit you might be able to rethread it...or thread and weld a nut on and back it out and install a new nipple if replaceable but dont count on that .I would go for trying not to damage the nipple and clean the threads if damaged.
Also gravity should work with you but be prepared to suck out any shavings that might have wanted to travel in

I would try using a chisel and hammer on one of the filter holes to see if you can make it spin. Might have to use a cut off wheel to remove the rest of the mangled filter.

How about a bolt extractor into the pipe nipple that threads into the block? Seems to me it would grab pretty well......

It also might be worth driving an old Chinese screwdriver between the gasket and the block. Try not to screw up the mating surface. That's where it binds, so you could reduce the contact area by half on the near side. You might be able to break the seal on the far side with the right size bar and levering the flow hole away from the block. In any case, take a big drift punch and go around the outside edge and pound on the metal from the top. Might help to break that seal.

Chisel and hammer method:

Place the chisel on one of those tiny holes and gently hammer it to loosen the filter. Try to hold the chisel parallel to the filter gasket surface to transmit the power to spin the filter.

Well guys thank you for all the suggestions. Tried needle nose pliers in the holes with a screw driver for leverage and tried banging on it with a hammer/screwdriver.. The thing that got it was the nipple extractor, the filter was in there extremely tight even after I got the nipple loose once it started unscrewing the top of the filter it got really tight.

Simple oil change turned into a 2 day multi hour process and almost lost the side of my finger. Picture doesn’t do the cut justice, there was a lot of blood lol..
