Please tell me this is normal.

Changing my radiator today and notice this bump on the thermostat housing for the lower radiator hose. I知 thinking the previous owner had this welded.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c18dd77b5f.jpg

It's hard to say from the picture.
Is it the ear on the far left? It looks a bit banged up.

Rockauto has them from like $12-$25.

Silicate buildup. Wire brush it off. You'll be fine.

Kanoe 05-26-2020 04:21 PM

Change it out if you can. You値l never keep that from weeping coolant.

Man that looks like it was welded a while ago and then has dried coolant buildup over the welded portion.....maybe PO dropped it and it cracked or it got banged up with a tool and repaired.

If it's the same diameter you should be able to clean it off but then why was coolant building up there in the first place unless the clamp wasn't tight enough, I've seen that kind of buildup where the T-Stat housing meets the block once the gasket got old but and seeped under the timing cover but this is just a hose on pipe/nipple.

This is a shot of a brand new one, it's a detent thing so you have a reference for the hose stop.

it's a factree setup.

Well I値l be damned, you were right! Cleaned it up with some sandpaper. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6e117c9560.jpg

I知 not sure why that tube had so much build it. The hose wasn稚 leaking, but it sure did come off easy. I wonder at some point if the previous owner used tap water when mixing the anti freeze (which was red) and caused the build up. The spring clamp seems to be in good shape, but I値l put it on the top hose just in case.

I've got one on my corolla like that. It continuously weeps, not enough to drip but it builds up like that. I think once the aluminum gets that pitted corroded texture it's hard to stop it.

It's just maintenance. Doesn't matter if you use green or red. I switched to pink. Time will tell if it does the same.

Man the original pic of the dirty pipe sure looked like it was repaired, that positive stop looked like sloppy excess filler material lol, don't remember this when I did Timing belt about 2 years ago haha, at that time I also made the switch from green (previous owner) to pink coolant, my extra coolant shelf in the garage is starting to look like a rainbow - pink for toyotas, green for my seadoos, orange dex cool for my chevy, blue for my wife's mini cooper, can't even remember the color for my dodge srt-4, might be pink/red as well....

I am kinda agreeing with Drew here. That either welded or a bad casting on a mold. What does the inside of the tube look like?

Wait a min.. Isnt that just the hose stop on the casting that is just dirty? I know lots of Toyotas have a stop on their castings so the hose will not go on anymore..:/
