SPC UCA's vs OEM
 
I'm trying to get a little more space between the UCA and my tire and the SPC's "look" like they will give me that - along with the alignment options.

Can anyone confirm that there is more space between the tire and the UCA with the SPC?

Well I really think that the spacing between your tire and the UCA depends heavily on the backspacing of your wheel. Now in all honesty I went with JBA Offroad UCA's and have a set of 2006 Tacoma TRD OffRoad 16" rims, I had to put some spidertrax spacers in to go from about 1/4" of clearance between the tire and UCA to 1 1/4".

I'm not a fan of spacers, so when the current tires wear out I'll be looking at replacing the wheels with something that has a 'more' correct backspacing (so i can ditch the spacers)

From my understanding, the wheel backspacing is going to be the factor that effects UCA clearance the most. I run SPC UCAs and love them for a lot of reasons, but I also picked up some land cruiser wheels that are wider and allow me to run 285s without clearance issues. I forget what the backspacing spec is, but they are an 8-inch wide wheel versus a 7-inch 4runner wheel.

A side by side comparison you will gain more clearance with the SPC arm, but like has been said wheel backspace is more of a factor. The biggest advantage of the SPC arms is the adjustablty.

Thank you!

I understand backspacing makes the most difference but I don't want to change my wheel. I clear now just fine, but if I can get some additional clearance and get the adjustability then it's even better.

You could always go with wheel spacers and the SPC UCAs... that'll get you to where you want to be.:thumb:

Control arms should help give you some spacing but the major thing is the caster / adjust-ability (SPCs or Heimed uppers).


Side note: I've got some BNIB SPC control arms and some other related LCA parts to lock in the lower control arm adjustment if you go that route and are interested. That way when you're offroading you're not knocking out your alignment. Was going to install the stuff but decided I'm selling my 4R and going to a SFA truck.
