Light Bulbs and Bumper
My dad and I were out on a trail the other day while it was raining, and while he drove my 4Runner I noticed that my center brake light and passenger license plate light are both out. I wondered if anyone knows the part number for the license plate bulb...

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good LED replacement bulb and/or a part number for the socket that is pictured below. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2afc2e326d.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c9a4a01784.jpg Lastly, does anyone know which CBI bumper this is? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...60f7abbfbf.jpg Thanks |

Some discussion here - broken 3rd brake light ? |
Pricey, but so far the only 921 LED I recommend for a 3rd brake light Best, Brightest LED Brake Light Bulb
I use them on my 4Runner and 1st-gen Tundra, more intense than the original incandescent even during the middle of the day. |
The bumper is the CBI hybrid since it has the tube welded in closest to the fill panel for the lift gate. Their plate bumper has sheet metal on that portion.

did you notice if you had any dash lights on...I think if the 3d brake light bulb is out,,,it makes the abs light come on ....at least on my 2000.
I think it was the abs light...i remember years back having a dash light come on...and found out it was triggered by the 3rd brake light bulb being burned out. |

Every single 3rd Gen I've owned (that makes 6 now) has had a burnt 3rd light socket. Some worse than others. If you try the junkyard route, go to one with several 4Runners becasue it will probably be in the same condition.

Let it be made known that @redstar is the man who compiled this awesome list:
Location Bulb Type/Number Quantity Gauges #24 3 Instrument Lights #74 32 4-Wheel Drive Indicators Neowedge B/T4 2 Center Differential Indicator Neowedge B/T4 1 Key Ring #74 1 Hazard Button Neowedge A/T3 1 ECT/Rear Defrost Neowedge A/T3 1 Rear Defrost On 3mm LED 1 Rear Window Controls Neowedge A/T3 1 Passenger Seatbelt Indicator 5mm LED 1 Climate Controls Neowedge B/T4 3 A/C On 3mm LED 1 Air Return On 3mm LED 1 12v Outlet Ring N/A 1 Ashtray #74 1 Automatic Shifter #74 1 Glove Box #74 1 Vanity Mirrors Fuse Bulb 2 Map Lights BA9s 2 Dome Lights DE3175 2 Drivers Window Controls 3mm LED 2 Passenger Window Controls SMD LED 1 Headlights 9003/H4 2 Front Side Marker #194 2 Front Turn Signal 7440 2 Rear Turn Signal 992 2 Stop Lights 7443 2 Back-up Lights 921 2 Parking Lights #194 2 High Brake Light 921 1 Licence Plate #194 2 Do yourself a favor and spend the few minimal extra bucks and buy yourself LED bulbs for the license plate. I've converted pretty much every bulb to LED's on my '01 with the exception of my turn signals (scared of hyperflashing) and I absolutely love how they function and look. Halogen bulbs, IMO, are too dim and outdated. The LEDs will not only modernize your 3rd gen, but make things much more noticeable, too. Just my .02 |
That's a nice list, but the license plate bulbs are not 194, they are W5W, or 2825 (or 168). They are physically interchangeable, but 168 is about twice as bright as the 194.
The LED's are a great upgrade option, here is how mine look: http://i.imgur.com/BxL5WsH.jpg |
By the way along with the VLEDS 921 bulb in the 3rd-brake light I'm also running LED bulbs in my taillights, have no issues with cruise control or ABS. I had a small load resistor ready to install just in case LOL
