Third time's a charm!!

Hey everyone!

I'm not necessarily a new member, but I feel like one since I created my profile back in 2013 when I got my 2013 Trail - and only made one post about that. Anyway, the years went by and I had many adventures (including getting married, and moving three times between multiple states) and almost 90k miles later I got bored and decided to trade in the 2013 Trail for a 2020 Venture. It was also red - and I've wanted to be back in a red 'Runner ever since my '93 got totaled back in 2013.

So, here I am, back again! Can't wait to absorb the wealth of information that this forum has to offer on these rigs and offer my own advise if I can from time to time.

Welcome back! Nice Runner - I almost bought Barcelona. Also, I like the Venture trim, it looks good IMO. Enjoy it!

Love those wheels on the Venture.

Thanks guys!

I think the Venture trim is a nice middle ground between the TRD Off-Road models and the TRD Pro. (Kind of reminds me of the Trail trim from '10-'13) although KDSS was not an option I could find on any Venture builds near me, but I plan on putting some Bilstein 5100 shocks on the front and I assume that'll help a bit with the softer ride.

The graphite TRD wheels and TRD interior trim are a nice touch. Plus the SofTex synthetic leather seats are nice, and will be easier to clean dog hair off of.....

Looks rad! I'm sure that 2nd gen was an awesome ride, but just keep this one forever and im sure it will have the same nostalgia eventually.

ric: I miss my 2nd gen greatly. If I could find another in decent condition (and in red) I probably would not think twice about buying!

How would you rate the 2020 model vs previous year models you owned?

Welcome back and grats on the new Venture!

Hey Alex - apologies for the delay in response - but to answer your question:

Obviously the jump from my '93 to '13 was a huge step. Don't get me wrong, if I came across another 2nd gen in good condition I'd grab it in a second!

From 2013 to 2020 I feel as if the 5th gen model has been refined over the years. The build quality seems to be a bit better. Also - the tech has gotten better as well.

Before I traded in my 2013 I was going to upgrade the stereo and get rid of the not-so-good stock nav/head unit. Needless to say I didn't - and saved that $$ to upgrade the stereo on our Jeep instead.

The 2020 models come standard with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a slew of other tech improvements including lane departure warning, sway warning, adaptive cruise among other things that Toyota's Safety Sense package has. There is a lot more variety in the 4Runner lineup as well. In 2013 (and you guys feel free to chime in if I'm incorrect :) !!) they only offered the SR5, Trail, and Limited. Now there is SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off Road, Off Road Premium, Venture, Limited, Nightshade, and TRD Pro. (and I conveniently listed those in MSRP from lowest to highest) :)

Hopefully this helps - I'm sure this has been discussed among the forums as well.

Welcome. I just bought a red 2020 myself. I almost went with the venture for the wheels and accents. I couldn't find a red or blue in my area and the dealer didn't seem too interested in looking for one. ended up with the off road premium in red. I envy your black lower front bumper. Looks A LOT better than my silver. Congrats on the new ride.

It looks good with those wheels. Congrats!
