If a 4Runner comes with the Cargo Tray (installed at Port), does...

If your 4Runner comes with the Cargo Tray (installed at Port), does it remove cleanly or does it leave visible mess/holes in the cargo area carpeting, etc?

Asking because a lot of the inbound Off-Road Pro inventory seems to be coming with a "Wilderness Package" which includes the roof rack cross bars, all-weather floor liners, and the cargo tray. If that tray is installed at Port, rather than by the dealer during PDI, then there's no way to prevent it being installed before it arrives at the dealer. So I'm curious if it installs and uninstalls cleanly or is irreversible. Thanks.

You have to either find somebody with a clean, matching interior who wants to swap, or purchase a few things. It is not a clean removal. You may very well be able to find somebody to swap with you. There is a thread on here somewhere in which they did the swap and showed what was involved.

I have done this swap; 18 Pro to 18 ORP. It went very well and took all of 15 minutes to complete. I gave $50 on my end for getting a bit more function in my ORP but we were both happy and getting what we wanted out of the deal.

Did the other guy end up with a clean cargo area or is there permanent holes made from where the cargo tray was installed?

No, you basically swap all of the factory parts, carpet and all. If you were giving up your tray, you would get their carpet with no holes. Which is why I said a clean, fairly new swap vehicle. If theirs is older, you may get all the hardware and foam spacers, etc, but have the added cost of new carpet.

There are two holes that are present if the cargo deck was installed. For 4Runners without the sliding deck, the floorpan does not have the holes drilled, though the nuts are welded underneath. It's no big deal though and the non-cargo deck carpet, styrofoam spacers, etc. cover everything up. As others have said, it's best to find someone to swap with to get the part that transitions the height from the back seats to the cargo floor, the brackets needed, etc. If you have both sets of parts, it is reversible to either configuration in about an hour.

Depending on where you are in the US, I have the complete carpet and bracket set including the cargo mat that covers everything out of my '20 TRD ORP available. All like new. I put the sliding cargo deck in mine.

Why not just get the truck you want in the configuration you want? The dealer can do a trade. It might cost you a little bit of money but your not tearing apart your brand new T4R.

I've done this before and it's well worth the time/expense to get what you want.

Believe it or not, inventory is hard to come by right now in this metro, and most of the next wave seem to be coming with the cargo tray on the Port installed items. I was eventualy able to find one without it, so it's all good. :)

It's a simple swap and you're hardly tearing your truck apart to uninstall and replace with carpet. Again, it has already been drilled so you can't undo that. Everything else is unbolt, remove, replace a couple of brackets and bolt everything back in. If you were close by I would gladly trade my carpet for a new sliding deck. Edit: Saw you found one without. :thumb:

jay35, are you sure the cargo tray is a Port addition? My truck isn't even at port and the dealership is saying that it can't be added at port.
