Raptor lights problems and misfunction

So I installed raptor lights and followed instructions on all YouTube vids saying to put the add a fuse in the INJ slot. The runner and the raptor lights were working perfectly fine for alittle over a week. Then yesterday I was driving down the highway and the truck lost power steering and completely shut off while I was going 65 mpg and had to cross lanes and pull over. Check engine light was on and trac off lights were on. Tried to start it and it would start for a second then shut off again. Tried again and it wouldn’t even start. Got it towed to the dealership and they ran the diagnostic and just called and said it was the afternarket lights causing the problem so they had to take it out of the fuse. The raptor lights are just for looks so I’m just gonna keep them off but sucks I paid 70 bucks for them and this happened. Has anyone else had this problem with the raptor lights or any solutions?

Well, not exactly...I dont and wont have "raptor lights" on mine, but to each, his own...but I have an Add a Fuse in the IGN slot NOT the INJ.
I believe the INJ is the fuse for the fuel injection. IGN is the Ignition slot; the accessory activates when the key is turned.
Been working without issue for most of a year now.
I could be wrong here, but I dont think so...

This might be a dumb suggestion but have you confirmed that your battery terminals are clean and making full contact?

have you considered ripping them out and throwing them in the garbage where they belong?

What do you mean? They add at least 10 overland style points and you are sure to get a few head nods while driving.

I just installed raptor lights on my 2015 trd pro. Placed the red wire as directed to the Inj fuse. Vehicle won't start. After troubleshooting it for awhile I Installed the red wire to the headlight fuse which is marked 10amp which is 2 fuses above the inj fuse. Now it works when the headlights are on.

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the 4Runner family. Have a 2021 TRD Pro.

I wanted to add smoked amber raptor lights but I’m not electrically savvy.

1) I want the ability to turn the lights off but without having to install a relay. Is it possible to link the Raptor lights to DRL and Headlights? That way when I have either my DRL, Low Beam or High Beams on, the raptor lights are on? And when I have the DRL off (and lo and high beams) the raptor lights are off?

2) I see that if I add a fuse to the cabin fuse box, the fuse cover won’t fit. Is there another fuse cover that is 3rd party that could allow the fuse box to be covered with the added fuse?

3) I’m also in the works of installing Thinkware U1000 front and rear dash cam via OBD2 power cable instead of hardwiring it in. Where do you guys recommend the excess cables for the front and rear cams be tied up and hidden? I had seen the side of the dash on some other cars being popped open and those going in there. Is that possible on the 4Runner too or is there a better spot?

1) It would be easy to do Either DRL or Low beam but both would need more relay/circuit work.

2) I don't think there exists an aftermarket fuse cover that allows additional fuse heights to be added. Apparently false... see post below

3) there was a couple of threads of someone installing front & rear dash cams I think you could get wiring ideas from those.

There are extended fuse box covers that fit over add-a-fuse modules. (There are two different add-a-fuse versions that will fit in the fuse positions, the low-profile ones work best).
Here’s a thread with links to eBay, Etsy.
Contact the Etsy vendor, and T4R member @ihateu3 , to make you one for a 20+ model year 4Runner.
Extended Fuse Box Cover?

Note that the 14-19 model years are different fuse box configurations than the 20+.
If you have a 14-19 4Runner the MESO version will work.

I can't post a new thread as I'm a newb, so sorry to hijack. I'm adding raptor lights today and alteady have my alpharex drl's wired to the inj fuse. With the same add a fuse supplied with the raptor lights I assume I should use the ign fuse. Any ideas?

Can't wait to be able to post some pics of my ride.

I still to this day don’t understand the appeal of wanting copy cat Ford lights on a Toyota 4 Runner. They serve absolutely no purpose, and I’ve read numerous reports of people having problems with broken wires, fuse problems, broken lights etc. after spending $90 for cheap ass Chinese led’s that cost $10 to make.

fourrunnerbill 05-06-2021 10:55 PM

I believe the proper way to add these lights is to use a tap a fuse or add a fuse so it does not draw power from any existing circuit. My raptor LED's came with one of those and has been working fine for a couple months no problem. But I'm considering removing them now anyway. Not as excited about these as I once was. The tap a fuse does stick out further so I couldn't put the fuse cover back on-one reason I don't like it now.
