Door Lock Actuator Repair

Hey Dudes and Gals,

@infamousRNR , @calnhob and I have another video for you. If you have a non-functioning door lock, this video will show you how to go about fixing it for a very nominal fee. We learned of this technique from @habanero who did a nice write-up on it on Yota Tech. So, we would like to thank @habanero (aka Susan) for her research on this job and her willingness to share the knowledge with the 3rd Gen 4runner DIY community and we would also like to thank @octanejunkie for providing a link to an Ebay seller that sells the motors that will work for our door lock modules.

Here's the video and we hope you Enjoy the Show!

Nice video Tim! I need to do this on my 99, or at least let the next buyer know about it. Mine are slow or stuck when it's super hot outside.

Great Video Tim!

I did the exact motor replacement in my 2000 Land Cruiser (uses the same motor!!!) and put the two half's together with cable ties. It's been 4+ years and so far so good!

You might want to update the title to reflect 100 series Land Cruiser (believe Tacomas use the same setup)

It fixes the door lock actuator but if you're having a problem with your FOB too, it won't fix that.

Are you sure the 100 series Land Cruiser lock assembly and lock actuator are identical to the 3rd Gen 4runner.

I recently pulled out the lock assembly from a 1st Gen Tacoma and it's definitely different. I pulled the Tacoma actuator apart hoping to find that it takes the same motor but it's different. It has posts on the bottom of it that small electrical connectors attach to and it also has a plastic gear affixed to the shaft that doesn't seem to want to come off. I'd like to figure out a way to make this repair work for the Tacoma as well. Some people have successfully taken the motor apart, cleaned it with contact cleaner and put it back together fixing the motor. Another guy said he soldered the electrical connectors to a replacement motor and fixed his. I think Toyota special ordered those motors for those actuators because you can't find ones like that for sale with the electrical posts sticking out the bottom.

7 years later the motors are still doing their job, here's to your video helping lots of people like the rest of 'em do.

Good luck with the job.

Nice job Tim. Well done.

Possibly try some aerosol contact adhesive next time on the door wrapping. Takes about two to five minutes to set up depending upon weather. Wilsonart 700 is my favorite, can be had at Home Depot for $10. Clean the nozzle after use. I guess it is for sale in California.....
Adhesive - Lokweld(R) 700A Premium Aerosol Contact Adhesive - LW-700A

Whose 4Runner was that on the street?

Thanks for the tip. That was Wei's (@calnhob) rig on the street. He helped me research and film this job.

Replacing the whole actuator on all my doors since I tried this method but they just fell apart and snapped in half (gotta love Hawaii) having to spray everything with anti rust and corrosion, all the gears where chewed up and rotten.

Windows including sunroof and cargo door window and locks weren’t getting enough power so I looking into the fuse box and replaced the burnt out 30A fuse and didn’t fix nothing so I’m having to replace the actuators and stuff which sucks along with the master control panel as it was completely corroded. Could not find a forum with all the answers in one place but these threats saved so much of my time. Thank you guys.
