I checked parts.toyota.com and the 2021 parts are not available yet to see what it will take to retrofit them.

I would be interested in seeing how well the 2021 model LEDs' perform compared to the 2020 halogens

I'm more interested in how they implement the LEDs in the housing. If you're able to replace burnt out LEDs without spending mucho dinero on replacing the entire housing, then I'll be interested in seeing if the new ones will work in earlier models. If not, I'll be glad I dodged a bullet and didn't end up with a 2021.

This. It would be awesome if Toyota designed the rear of the headlight housings to have access to remove a portion to replace the projector. But that may be wishful thinking.

I'm interested in the LED high beams. Is there a factory relay or module that deactivates PWM to allow for easier LED high beam retrofits while maintaining DRL function. I have a 2020 Nightshade. couldn't wait the extra few months to see what came out.

I envy your black interior trim.

In the configurator for a 2021 Venture, LED fogs are a $350 option...boo.

Edison_chen 08-30-2020 01:25 PM

Up north here in Canada, the Toyota website only states Led headlights for low beams only. I wasn’t able to find any information on full LED headlight a on the higher trims (Limited/Pro).

Maybe we get the short end of the stick or maybe the website is incorrect.

I’m going to be very interested to see how this is implemented on the 2021s. Toyota does have some plug and play halogen-to-LED stuff, like fog lights, and redesigning the wiring harness and going crazy on the housing would seem like too much trouble for a vehicle that’s going to be redesigned.

Bulbs?

Bulbs and housing?

Bulbs, housing and wiring?

It will be housing or housing & wiring (obviously with a built-in LED module).

There is no way and OEM will just putting an LED "bulb" in an existing housing. Due to physics, LED bulbs are a downgrade when placed in a housing designed for halogen bulbs. Halogen housings focus light from a single point source. LED bulbs, no matter how thin they try to make them, will still be wider and will not focus properly. They would produce more glare and/or reduce visibility. Simple physics.

Hopefully, like with their LED fog lamps, we will just need the new housings and no wiring changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if we need an adapter harness. When the Tundra's switched over to the LED headlights, the wiring changed slightly to support the DRL's.

A user over on the Tundra forum came up with a relatively inexpensive/easily installed jumper harness that sorts everything out. My money is on something similar when the 4Runner lights come out.

I agree it will be a new housing, guess we'll find out if it's going to be an affordable/doable upgrade... me personally I prefer Xenon lights I like that warm up and amazing light output, if the factory LED system isn't an option for us I may just do a projector retrofit with HID

Checked for 2021 lights on the Toyota site a couple times in the last week and they are not available yet.

From what I gather looking at different posts:

1 - The quality of the 2021 led bulbs could be trash, why are you so fixed on getting them?

2 - You can’t just take led bulbs and put in halogen housing of older models, wont work properly.

3 - The 2021 led housing could retrofit in older models, but again see number 1. We don’t know if it’ll fit yet too.

4 - Wiring harness? If I know anything about 4runners is these things, as long as same generation, are so so similar. Probably won’t require a harness if retro compatible. Idk if 2021 is considered Gen 6 but based on the features that would be insulting to the 4runner, it’s a 5 Gen imo. Unless Toyota has officially stated its Gen 6. There’s almost nothing new.
