tired of my morimoto HID kit

have had my morimoto HID kit for 2 years now and it has never performed perfectly. id say 90% of the time it misfires the driver side. takes about 3-5 minutes of the headlights being on and then turning it off for the driver side to come on. retrofitsource has been good at replacing parts and troubleshooting but it seems the problem always shows up.(replacing ballast/ignitors and relays.). this HID kit is just isnt reliable. i never know when the bulbs will; be on at the same time.

im tempted to replace it with lasfit 4runner specific LED.
4Runner Headlights, Custom Made Low Beam, LED Bulbs|LASFIT

any opinions on this?
thanks

I have had this exact same issue with Moriomoto HID products in the past with the same experience. Only one side would ignite, they took too long to warm up, etc. TRS replaced everything, but after getting sick of not being able to rely on having two working headlights, I ultimately switched to Xenon Depot/TRS' HID kit with the Philips bulb upgrade.

Over 4 years, I've never had so much as a flicker or a misfire. I would buy this kit ten times over - and I have for family vehicles. No problems there either.

Last November I upgraded to Xenon Depot's H11 XTR HID Kit with the Philips XV2 bulb for the LB; and the Xenon Depot 9005 Xtreme Pro LED with DRL driver module for the HB. Aside from a very slight color difference between the 2 Philips HID bulbs (especially noticeable during first 15-20 seconds warmup), they have performed flawlessly through the winter and summer. I am especially pleased with the DRL feature, which looks really sharp with the dual-color LASFIT Switchback front turn signals.

You have a link? So you just upgraded to a new bulb? On your morinoto?

I didn't have the issues you did, but I gave up on HID. They were nice and bright, until you were in a fog bank or snowstorm then too bright. They took forever to warm up in cold weather. Replacement bulbs are expensive for the Philips option. I ended up going to GTR's Ultra2 LED and was impressed. Instant on, last ~20x longer than HID, and much simpler to install. The pattern is full and bright, though not as bright as HID. The only catch was that I had to order replacement dust caps for the headlight because I had drilled the originals for the HID kit.
I'd be skeptical about that LasFit kit. I'm sure heat buildup can be an issue, but I've never heard of anyone on here melting headlights or burning out LEDs because of overheating. The special ventilated cap sounds like a solution to a problem that doesn't occur, and a good method for water intrusion and condensation problems.

H11: XTR HID Kit

me too. The morimoto stuff is garbage. They last 1.5 years each time for me. Both times the light would start to turn green tint for me. Fail to fire. I would replace component by component only to have the next component fail on me.

I went through 2 sets of morimoto HIDs... I then got the Xenon Depot XTR kit... it has lasted now 2 years. But once Toyota releases the LED headlight assemblies for 2014+ 4runner for order at your Toyota parts dept, I'm going to go that route.

I think Morimoto would do better if they just charge 50% more for the kit and use more durable components. I'd gladly pay more to have it last 2X longer.

If your only intent is to get the look, I'd just run stock and not have these issues.

I just want lights as good as a Corolla or a Hyundai Elantra. I used to travel a ton for work and use rental cars all the time. Every time I get back to my 4runner I rejoice at the nice simplicity, smoothness and build quality. But then when it gets dark I curse at the damn lights.

If the OEM lights now suck for you, I don't think the LED lights will be any better.

Why? I think the led lights on a Corolla is better than the halogen lights on the se Corolla. Hertz has quite the assortment of Corollas I have had the pleasure to sample.

The morimoto lights / xenon depot I don't like because I admit they are a problem for other drivers. Whenever my wife drives the 4runner and follows me in my s2000 they are so bright and glaring it completely distracts me. I feel for the other drivers who are in regular cars and not SUVs/minivans/pickups...

I'm tired of morimoto garbage. I've been dealing with their junk for years. I picked up a pair for GTR ultra 2s and will see how those work out.

Never had a single issue with my Morimoto H11 HID kit, I have the relay harness and no issues
