What have you mounted on your factory rack?
Hey everyone,
You don’t see many that mount accessories to the factory 3rd gen rack. A full rack is not currently in the budget so I am requesting to see how you all are mounting your recovery boards, awning, shovel, etc. TIA! |
I mounted my awning with the awning mounts that came with it. They are basically L brackets that I mounted to the crossbars.
As far as traction boards I lay them on top of the crossbars and through a strap around them. Simple, cheap, works fine. I'm sure you could do something similar with a shovel or whatever else you want to mount. Just consider the weight of whatever you do. |
I'm honestly just running a low pro yakima box. Fits my traction boards, shovel, and some other random things. Have the box all the way to passenger side. Cvt awning on drivers side also using L brackets. Been fine on stock bars. During winter the awning comes off and angled snowboard holder goes on.

currently it's loaded with a cargo box and a tandem sit on top kayak for our vacation. Have had great luck so far, very sturdy system. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sgi...bMuxXNIF9/view20200310_094500.jpg - Google Drive |
Awning
Not exciting but I put a Tuff Stuff awning on top, driver side. I was told of the c-channel under the rubber on stock racks and sure enough, after a trip to the hardware store for nuts and bolts and up it went. Plenty of room inside for everything else so far.

I use a curt rack system because it works and its inexpensive and can mount all my recovery system, camping and hunting gear even on their short system. It mounts to the stock rack rails and as long as I don't over load it when offroading.
Amazon has the cheap too...Amazon.com: CURT 18115 Universal 42 x 37-Inch Black Steel Roof Rack Rooftop Cargo Carrier: Automotive |
Awning
I just have an awning that I put on the drive side. Probable the best accessory, that I have, to of spent money on. Super convenient when out racing XC, CX, etc.
