Annual Winter Trip - open to T4R members located in VA/WV/MD/DC/PA

Hey T4R,
My apologies for not getting this thread going sooner, meant to post this before leaving town for the week. I’ll update this post when I get back with more detail, but for now, we’ll do the trip Dec 19-20. Unfortunately, the weekend between Christmas and New Year’s doesn’t really exist this year.

This year @carlos.elmotor can’t head up the trip, so I’ll be stepping in... this trip is special to me because it was the first time I took my truck off-road and got hooked, so I’d like to keep it going.

Truck/Driver requirements
As an “open” trip we try to find a balance that’s interesting enough for experienced drivers, but not so challenging that newer people will seriously damage their rigs or have a bad time. It'll be a relatively stock friendly trip, there's a few sections that lift and tires would be beneficial, or line choice will be more critical.

We're all here to get out and have fun, so good attitudes and helping out when someone needs a hand is, well, normal.

Let's keep things off Insta, FB and the like... instead, if you have friends that want to come, send them here to sign up. (limited to 10 trucks)

Comms

[Updated Channels]
Amateur radio:
Primary: Simplex 146.58 MHz
Secondary: Simplex 147.48 MHz

If you don't have an amateur radio or license, bring along a GMRS or FRS radio and we should be able to get things working... or risk not being able to tell the group you need to stop to take a leak :-)

General Location
I'm pretty short on time this year to scout and plan an entirely new route but have a handful of forest service roads and backroads I've explored over the last year and have put together a route going from Wardensville south on Saturday. To get some interesting "technical" trails in, Sunday we'll do the Dunkle Hollow/Union Springs trail (to change it up from last year, we'll run it in reverse).

Tagging.... @Boyds4Runner @Dougthelurk @BurghRunner @Zapper @01100101 @4RNR _Grl @WeedKillrr @BrockSamson257 @jcaino

I can’t remember everyone’s username. [emoji23] so if I missed anyone, please pass it along, just not on social media...

Confirmed:
1. @gfxcruncher
2. @jcaino
3. @BurghRunner
4. @BrockSamson257
5. @techno

Final Details

We'll meet at the 7-11 in Wardensville, WV at 8am, depart at 8:30

15 W Main Street
Waredensville, WV 26851

There's a post office there as well, so we can all park over on that side of the lot.

See the last post for last minute updates etc...

Unfortunately, I will be in Williamsburg that weekend. Happy Wheeling and Camping. Thanks for including me on this.

Thanks man, the trip was really awesome, highly recommend it. We were only able to do about 830 miles of it, need to make a trip back there someday.

Added you to the list, looking forward to meeting!

If you aren't full with your usual group, I'd like to join - coming from Quantico VA.
Well armored 5th gen loaded with recovery gear, but only FRS for comms.
Comfortable on Greens and tame Blues, but I've done harder with good spotters.
Since it's just one night, I'll probably just sleep in the back and eat a sub from Sheetz - I'm not an A-game overlander.
This might be my excuse to figure out mapping and GPS and buy myself a Christmas present.

Hey @Unretired sure thing, I'll put you down as confirmed! Looking forward to meeting up. There won't be anything crazy hard on this trip, I've driven all of it solo before... comms are useful and I'll have an extra handheld, but there's always the blow-your-horn-if-you-gotta-stop in case we don't get things sorted out, like you said, it's only an overnight trip.

Check out Gaia gps, the free version isn't bad but the premium with extra map layers has done me good. Not sure if the free version gives you an account or not, but having the ability to plan trips on my laptop (in the browser) and syncing it to the phone/tablet has been sweet, YMMV. It's what's worked for me, there's other solutions out there too.

In(?)

If you’re willing to take a taco along, I’d like to pile on. A 4Runner buddy extended the invite, assuming you’re cool with another new guy joining? Sounds like a good time.

gfxcruncher 11-12-2020 04:37 PM

Sure thing @MCRILM117 I'll add you to the list! looking forward to meeting.
