Hit a Deer

Hey guys,

I got super lucky this past weekend. I hit a pretty huge buck but thankfully it didn't tear anything up too bad. It pushed my bumper backwards a few inches on the passenger side and pulled it forwards on the drivers side about the same amount. Would you all think this requires a new bumper or is there something behind it that would have absorbed this impact and crumpled a bit?

I can post pictures if necessary but there isn't much to see.

Thanks.

Probably more than just a bumper. Why not slide yourself underneath and check it out? Probably just a couple parts to replace....

I honk threw areas where i know the deer are, lights and bumper whistles don't really help....

Thanks for the advice. I did get under there but couldn't really see anything. I guess I was asking to see if I need to have an entire bumper ready to go on when I take this off or just a crash bar, or something of the sort. Its really not that bad so hard to see anything super obvious. I'll just have to take it apart and see.

A picture would help even if its minor. I would suspect the bumper mounting arms will be bent and need replacing, and the bumper itself misshapen although they are pretty solid, but it usually takes a lot of playing around to get it to fit right afterwards even with all brand new stuff, and the bumper also attaches to the inner fender side brackets, these are pretty flimsy so I would disconnect those and straighten and attach them last. I wouldn't worry about the crush cans as they just tuck under the valance and don't support any of the bumper components and can be straightened in a vice.

A salvage yard with 4runners would be a good place to start for replacement parts.
