5296 Miles in 14 Days

I did 5296 miles in 14 days with the longest days being about 1200 miles. To put it in perspective that’s almost the same mileage to drive from New Jersey to Los Angeles and back to New Jersey however that’s not where I went.

My 2020 SR5 Premium 4Runner was a great vehicle to do my traveling in. Its completely stock, no lifts, no off-road tires, no roof rack, no end of the world bumpers - nothing - stock. It does have Husky Floor Liners.

Comfort: Drove great. No issues. Plenty of power. It gets noticeably louder around 70mph and over. I cannot put my left elbow on the arm rest on the door and steer with my left hand. I’m 6’2” 240lbs. It’s too low for me even in the lowest seat setting. The seat has alot of front to back adjustment. The SofTex seat covering is great. Not cold not hot I didnt get sweaty. I could drive for 18 hours with only fuel and toilet breaks and not feel like I fell down a flight of stairs. There were no rattles, humming buzzing etc. The truck is tight.

Lighting: Use the fog lights and the automatic brights. The fogs make a world of difference.

Connivence: I had a full size cooler and a small cooler. The full size had adult beverages it it so I put that all the way to the back. The smaller cooler I loaded with home made subs and pop. I had enough food so I didn't have to stop for food or eat at a gas station. Cup holders work well.

Radar Cruise Control: Works great. I used it often. It did stop working once and I stopped and shut off the vehicle to clean the sensor only to find a whole hornet body stuck to it. I wiped it off the sensor and the issue went away

Heating/Cooling: If there is one thing I miss it the automatic heat and cool. It was not worth the extra $5k to get a Limited which has it but I do miss not having to jack around with the heat/cool knobs.

The fuel economy (20mpg average for the trip) is not great however the range is good. I was able to take a lot of stuff comfortably with me that I would not have been able to do in our other vehicle.

Oil Consumption: 1/4 of a quart. So when I got home I thought I needed 1/2 quart. Doh! now its over filled by a 1/4 quart. (darn)

Apple CarPlay: It would get stuck and forget the SiriusXM app’s “favorites”, when texting it would forget the direction location sometimes and have to restart the directions itself. The voice to text works as it should for texting. Its good I got the Navigation and the in truck SiriusXM with the Premium package because Apple CarPlay still need some development. I like it it and I used it for the whole trip but it gets wonky and I prefer the pre-set channel “buttons” set up the in vehicle SiriusXM uses. The Sirius XM App sounds a whole lot better than the in vehicle SiriusXM.

Cell Phone: It’s easy to have conversations while driving

4Runner Wifi Hotspot: I like this feature in the truck. I was able to use my iPad for information on the locations I was visiting. I bought unlimited data for 30 days from AT&T. You do have to be sure it reconnects when the vehicle shuts down The vehicle needs to be running for it to work. This is dont like. I wish it worked on “accessory“ setting

Waze: It continues to be garbage. Took me off the highway and down side streets and back on the highway a few times again. In the past it took me down alley’s. The police sightings are useful however people in the south don’t seem to report them so it lost its effectiveness there.

4WD: No issues on the sand and the sand two tracks I drove on. I have complete confidence in this vehicle that I wont get stuck where I decide to go.

How about a map showing the path of your adventure?

Most people wouldn't really think where I went was all that interesting. I was all over north central and south Florida looking for a new location to move my business to.
I tried to visit some family and friends who I have not seen in years and well the below picture pretty much sums that up. I wont try that again....

I find it odd that your 4Runner is burning oil.

Mine has yet to do it after 120k miles and usually check it 1-2 times a month.

1/4 quart of 0w20 for 7000+ miles on a new engine isn't anything to be concerned about imho. I would expect it to stop using after it has a few more miles on it.

That's a long way to drive looking for a couple boxes of citrus fruit :wow2:

Gas would be under $2/gal had Christie not messed with the tax.
Sure, they could have upped it ONE time, but it is open-ended now. And the roads still suck.

So NJ now sells less fuel because NY and PA are only a few cents more per gallon. So they have to increase the tax more and more. :crutch:

Back in '09, People would pay the tolls to go to NJ from NYC to fill up and shop.
Now, everyone is fleeing NYC to NJ.

Every other state was cheap along 95 or 77/81. Florida = Cheap. Georgia = $$$. South Carolina = Cheap. North Carolina = $$$. Virginia = Cheap. Maryland/Delaware/PA area = $$$. NJ used to be cheap. NY = $$$.

Hence, I never stopped in NC or GA for fuel.

They really don’t care.

If you whine about the taxes they would be happy that you leave.

I always pay my NJ and Federal taxes on time and the correct amount.

Florida has taxes and plenty of them. Just no state income tax.

This move is not just about taxes its about expanding the operation.

Completely understood. I have one foot out of the state already.
Toooooo much building going on.
When you see a herd of deer roaming in Newark, you know something is up.

Gotta make another call to Murph and let him know you broke the lockdown!
(You know I am JFWY, right?)
