Cut mine in the same spot after my first trip thru big bear and my resonator looked like a modern art masterpiece...

I might have to do this, though a the moment my low point is the v8 hitch.
Did you need a torch? Or just a cutoff wheel?

Probably a stupid question but is there any disadvantages to this like like exhaust getting inside like while sitting idling since it may be staying underneath instead of pushing out from the vehicle? I’ve been wanting to cut and route mine out to the side behind the rear tire.

I've not encountered any of the concerns you have with the way I cut mine.

I went a slightly different route with my resonator delete.. I chopped it as well, but I also deleted the muffler mid-way and used the resonator to bolt it up instead of the muffler.
Sound ended up being much better than with a flow master exhaust on it, and would have been a free modification... It was too raspy with an out-right delete of the system, but the resonator in place of the muffler definitely did me wonders. My exhaust now dumps straight down at a 90 degree from the resonator and the V8 rumbles happily :)
All I did was cut the flange off of tge existing pipe and welded it to the resonator for a quick bolt on connection.
