WTB a nice 4runner...prefer 3rd gen, but may be swayed.

2 years ago I flew from Kansas to San Fran to buy a Tacoma from a guy on the Tacoma forum!! Took 3 days to drive back, but I just pushed through, and slept in my new-to-me dream truck and made much better time than I had planned.
Showing up so much earlier, I discovered my wife of 20 years had a boyfriend!
Long story short... divorced, moved out, lost everything, including my retirement, I now pay child support and allimony so she can have a boyfriend less than half her age.
I kept my dream truck for just over a year, before depression and anger made me sell it, along with all my outdoor gear!
I think (hope) I am turning the corner and after driving an embarassing grocery-getter car for a year, I need a REAL vehicle again to help get me get back out into nature!

I have seen some unrealistic posts on here where guys are looking for the ultimate overlander in new condition for $5k LOL!! That is NOT me!!!!

I don't really have a set budget in mind, and like you, as a member here I know what nice 4runner is worth, and I understand the value for what you pay for.

I would prefer to buy one that is already set to get off the pavement but that's not an absolute if the vehicle is right.
Obviously 4x4

Basically, a weekend warrior rig to camp from, and to take out West a few times a year to hunt Wyoming.

Thank you so very much!
Don

Wow Don and sorry to hear of about this, but:

"Your wife leaving was the trash taking itself out."

"She did you a favor. Her rejection is God's protection."

I recently read these in the comments of a youtube vid about a man leaving his wife, but thought they sure can apply the other way. Risky thinking, I know, in these crazy times, but I thought they were funny but also some truth to them.

Anyway, the below sure seems like good deals if you are willing to travel.

2002 4Runner 4WD w/ Supercharger - cars & trucks - by owner -...

And this one too, but it might take some dollars to get it right.

2002 Toyota 4runner - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive...

Good luck with your T4R search and all the best with your new adventure called life.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys!
And I didn't post the wife part of the story for sympathy, but more so as a "well damn"!

Thanks again for the leads!!!

PS... Looking for a turn-key daily driver.

Let me try to sway you. This 4th gen is a perfect mix of daily driver and weekend wheeler/overlander (link below). The ATRAC traction control system in the 4th gens make them very capable offroad. This one also has a winch and onboard air so those offroad excursions alone will be a bit less risky. I have a relatively crude sleeping platform for it that I've used over a dozen times and slept quite comfortably inside the vehicle.

Thank you Ian! Looks great on my phone, let me have a look once I am at my computer.

I think you should get a 4th gen as it'll be more of a comfortable ride, more space to sleep in then you're camping and hunting and just like any 4Runner, will get you anywhere!

Here is the one I have for sale, its the ultimate starting platform!

If you haven't gone for one yet and are still leaning 3rd gen, I'm about to list my '99 4wd for sale. It's close to stock but still a beast offroad as well as my daily driver in town. I can give more deets if interested, let me know. I'll be posting soon.

I’m a FF/Paramedjc and my first wife, of a whopping 6 months, was cheating while I was at work. I know how much that sucked so I can’t even imagine your situation. I’m sorry man. I’m glad you’re turning your life around. No better way to do it than what you’re exploring now.

My 2010 SR5-Premium is listed here in the classified section. It requires nothing. It is in perfect mechanical condition. It is already lifted 2.5” with new 33” MTs. Check it out. It’s ready for some great off road adventures. I’d drive the truck cross country right now. I don’t know what your budget is but this rig is ready for new adventures. PM me if you wanna chat.

Keep an eye out in Craigslist denver. There are a few good valued 4runners quiet often.

ouch....been there myself....except I got lucky...with a female judge who ruled 100 % in my favor. she got out of the marriage, but the judge in all her wisdom, awarded her el-zippo. I kept the house, my retirement, and didn't have to pay her one thin dime....ever...anyhow, myself, I find the 3rd gen 4 runners are decent rides...especially the limited...majority are automatics, but I do see manuals, from time to time...and they are easy to build up to whatever spec (and budget) you have in mind. I own a '97 Limited, and it's a beast. far better than my beloved isuzu Trooper, (first gen) which I owned for 25 years...before jumping over to the 4 runner...keep your eyes open on both Craigslist, and Facebook market place as well..Good luck.
