Which wheel spacers for 285/70r17’s?
2007 2Runner with 2.5/3” lift spacer kit.
What size wheel spacers do I need to accommodate 285? I’m aware that I’ll need to relocate the fender liners and remove/trim the mud flaps. I only mall crawl, so it’s my understanding that I might get away without trimming the bumper and body mount, as that clearance is only an issue with sizable suspension travel and full-lock turns. What type of wheels do you have?

Depends what wheel setup you have. Tire brand can also make a difference.
I have seen some claim to fit 285s on OEM wheels with a 2.5+ lift and no wheel spacers with minimal rub. An aftermarket wheel with enough backspacing will eliminate the need for spacers. Really your only two options for spacers are Spidertraxx or Synergy. Spiders are 1.25" and cost about $120/pair. Synergy are 1.50" and cost $100/pair. |

I had 285/70r17 tires on FJ cruiser 8 hole wheels without spacers. Little bit of rub on the front fender liner, and kissed the frame a little bit at full lock. Trimmed the fender liner, downsized to a 255/75r17 tire and added 1.5" spacers. No rubbing and I'm happier with the aesthetics of the extra poke from the spacers. 1st picture is with the spacers and 255's, 2nd is no spacers and 285'shttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2f45f23b4d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c1da7d8f20.jpg

Do you know the offset on the FJ wheels? Also do you think the 255/75s would rub without a spacer?

Otherwise no. Unless you care about the color, or can find spiders cheaper. I got mine from their outlet shop for $80/pair. |

Damn. I’m really confused. What’s my best chance to avoid rub with 285/70r17’s on OEM 4Runner wheels? The 1.25” Spiders? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I think either would be fine with OEM wheels as long as you have at least a 2" lift.
Just pick one based one the look/budget you want. You will need them regardless to fit 285s. The synergy would obviously get you further from the frame which reduces the chance of having to cut it. A lot of people on here with lift and spacers still end up pushing fender liners forward and doing the BMC. |

285s on 17 OEM wheels. 2’’ lift. Had to dremel a small amount of steel frame for rubbing at full lock. Spider Trax spacers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Keep in mind that if you are rubbing fender, spacers will make the rubbing worse.
Wheel spacers only help if you are rubbing on the control arms. |

I think that most people are having frame rub issues with this size. But you’re right, there is a small amount of fender rub too. I haven’t heard anyone complain about control arm rub, though. Have you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
