Install OEM fog lights in 1998
Besides the OEM bumper and OEM fog lights, what would it take to install the fog lights in a 1998 4runner. I'm guessing I'll need a switch and wiring? Couldn't find much searching through forums. Thanks!

You'll need a turn signal/headlight stalk with the fog switch from 99+ and there's a relay location in the fusebox that needs the relay, and the wiring harness. I'm doing this to my 1997. Already have the bumper, waiting for the right deal on the other stuff. Got my bumper for $50, some guy on craigalist quoted me 175 for used oem fogs!

I've looked into this quite a bit because it seemed like it should be an easy add-on, but at the end of the day, the amount of $$ for even a cheap Chinese set of OEM style lights plus the switch is as much as a set of quality aftermarket lights. The only reason I can see for adding OEM fogs would be if you wanted to keep a strict factory look. If you are looking for a set of functional lights, there are better options.

With your 98 you’re probably not going to be able to simply use a 99 stalk. I think the wiring and pcm went more modern.
I was under the impression the 96-98 were all very similar. The Blazer C8011 tractor lights are a good replacement for factory rectangular fogs as long as you have the factory mounting plate on the front bumper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Hella Fog/Driving Lights Alternatives
I searched for a long time for a set of the Hella rectangular lights that originally came on some 3rd gen. 4Runners, but had no luck locating any. I'm running the Blazer International C8010 rectangular lights on my 98 4Runner. They fit perfectly in the valance cut-out locations and have the rear mount studs that align with the factory fog light brackets. They look very similar to the Hella lights. I did order some Weather Pack connectors that I spliced onto the Blazer lights wiring. Those connectors mated to the existing Weather Pack connectors on the Hella wiring harness that was already in the truck. They work like a charm with the existing Hella wiring harness and the Toyota OEM fog light switch.
