EV axle conversions

The Magna eBeam Could Bring A Wave Of EV Pickup Trucks

This is a really great idea. While the company is aimed at manufacturers, the idea of a "bolt-in" kit is incredibly interesting. Imagine creating a hybrid from our trucks by swapping an axle and providing a power supply (and probably 50 more steps, ha).

Sounds like a horrible idea.
You’ll probably get banned for bringing it up.

This dude rich hates anything EV.

But yeah these axles are going to be amazing.

We mod our trucks and put in transfer cases for this type of torque, but ohhh God if it's electric. Get over your small penis syndrome.

My truck gets 12mpg. If I could swap in a lockable EV axle and make it 20mpg plus get more power I would add this in a heartbeat.

One of my first mods was a Hybrid conversion. While it only cost me $10, I did not notice any increase in efficiency.

Also worth noting - if anyone actually read the article - that this is not an aftermarket add on or conversion. The article mentions that it’s more than a bolt in - requires a lot more from the driveline and power train

It’s aimed for auto makers to integrate into their production process

Very interesting concept. Kind of a fast track for getting an EV truck to market quickly.
This paragraph made me think of the 4Runner community here:

“ I had a good laugh when Magna Powertrain President, Tom Rucker, lowkey threw shade at pickup drivers, saying, “change can be scary for pickup truck owners.” He’s not wrong! Even though they’re holdouts for large-displacement engines and simple ladder frame construction, trucks are one of the largest car segments, as Rucker points out, accounting for 20 percent of new vehicles sold in 2020. It’s one of the last segments to embrace the EV transition.”
