4th Gen Cat Back Exhaust Replacement Recommendations
well, my pipe just broke after the muffler. think i will need a full cat back replacement (two pipes: muffler and resonator). prefer to stick to OE (have a WTB/FREE ad running), but those two sections from Toyota will run $600! I don't like cheap "aluminized" Walker junk that rusts out one day after the warranty.

I got a Gibson sainless on sale for like 375 for the sole purpose of avoiding rust.
My buddy found an OEM style stainless on Amazon for pretty cheap. So there are options. |
I was sold on Remark Bold Performance. Not a lot of people have it but the quality is outstanding.

I've been pretty pleased with my Magnaflow cat back.
If I were to do it over again, I would have gone straight to a 1/4 Wave Resonator to kill the drone at 1800-2100 RPM, but otherwise no complaints. Best-looking side exit exhaust available as well, IMO. Gibson side exit tips look goofy as hell. |
So back in 2014 I put a borla TRD exhaust on my kids 99 4runner. Worst waste of money I had Spent on the truck. It had a drone at 45 & 65 mph that would scramble your brains. After some searching, I found a member who fixed it by installing a tundra resonator after the muffler. And thats what i had to do to mine. There is no substitute for a nice quiet ride. I just wish there was an option for a stainless setup designed for quiet running.

isn't the original a stainless set-up, and quiet? went to my local independent exhaust repair shop. they think they can cut and weld a flange/pipe piece for $80. they said it should last a year or so. might buy me time to locate a nice 4th gen. OE take off that someone has hanging from their rafter.

deeper research into my repair history indicates that i replaced the muffler and resonator pipes in February 2018 at 195k. so got 25k out of them. not good. they must have been the dreaded walker aluminized pipes. i think i will still sink the $80 into a patch, and cross my fingers i can find a nice take-off.

That nice, price isn’t bad either. I might have to keep this on my radar. |
does 5th gen. cat back fit 4th gen?

I got a gibson catback exhaust back in September, stainless steal straight exit. Sounds great, nice growl at low RPM and open up at high RPM.
