3rd Gen Rear Speaker Wiring

I took a break from writing code and decided to replace my amp and rear speakers. Point being, I'm no expert here.

I've seen other posts where the best answer I found was "a little soapy water" but it looks like I need to cut into the tape around the existing wires to even get in to the hole in the grommet so I could slide the speaker wire through.

Is removing that tape the best way to approach this and if so, what's the best material to replace it with when I'm done?

My grandfather came to me in a vision - he was a Ford mechanic for decades.

For anyone else facing this - I removed the tape, got in there just enough with a wire coat hanger to give me a little room, put some vaseline on the end of the speaker wire and it slid right through.

Hopefully getting it into the door will be just as simple. And I imagine any sort of weatherproof tape would work.

I'd just use any decent self fusing silicone tape to re-wrap the wiring.

Any particular reason why you decided to replace the wiring? I have a small amp that pushes about 45W RMS to each speaker and kept the stock wiring with no issues. Toyota does use pure copper stranded wire.
