Love this idea... but how do you make a solar panel that fits that shape?

I’m working on it with a manufacturer, will keep everyone updated. Not sure if it will happen yet or the cost.

Awesome idea if you can get it done I’m in
Maybe running on both sides of the hood scoop to give it a uniform look as well more power

I'm kind of surprised someone like Cascadia hasn't come out with a custom hood scoop version of their hood solar kit. I would guess that the complexity of avoiding the scoop combined with the much larger surface area required to keep it in the 90W range of their current unit makes it less appealing for them. I, for one, would love this as an option to both charge a backup battery and cut down on the glare off my Super-White hood while driving. A unit that essentially covers the entire hood while utilizing as much surface area for solar as possible would be a grade-A investment. I'll be following along with this.

I think give it a texture look like the old defender hood steel plates it would definitely macho up the 4Runner looks in my opinion :loco:

Update: one step closer. Estimated cost for all 3 panels is $300 (20watts each), plus $65 for a controller to prefer against over charging, monitor and display stats. Goal was to try and keep this all under $500.

Another quick update. The controller can be mounted under the hood. You will have to buy all 3 panels but can install and run them separately. And, I should have them in 4 weeks to test fit and review.
