Matching front OME coils to rear
I’m having a hard time figuring out which Old Man Emu front coils to match to the rears. I have a 1999 and I want to keep it somewhat similar to stock. I got a set of 4 Bilstein 4600s, and I am looking at the OME 2890 springs for the rear. But what I can’t figure out is which front springs would be the right match. 2880s?
I was leaning towards 2880s until I saw Wheelers Offroad has a set with 2890 rears and 2882s for the front. I’m not sure why they paired them that way - it doesn’t seem like the right match but I could be wrong. Is there a chart somewhere? I’ve searched and haven’t found one. Thanks for your help. |
Here’s what Wheelers says about the rear 2890s:
* Provides a slightly firmer than stock ride, with approx 2.5" of lift for '96-'02 4Runner * Great for maintaining ride height and load stability while hauling up to 200-300lbs of extra weight |
Do you have a stock front end?
-If you do then that will rule in 880 & 881 for OME. How much rake do you want? -If you want the rear to sit about 1" higher then 880. -If you want the rear to sit about .5" higher then 881. Do you have height adjustable shocks? -Gives the ability to fine tune your ride height. Wheeler's is correct. 890s gave me about 2.5" rear lift (22.5" center hub to fender) & about 2.75" with no cargo load. |
Yep everything is stock. No lift

So I called Wheelers and they recommended the 2881s. Also, thank you for the info re: the difference in height of the 2880 and 2881. That helped me visualize it better.

No help, but I am running OME 881F/906R Basic setup, medium weight.

I did go ahead and order the 881s for the front. How do you like yours?

Thanks - yeah it sounds like they should be fine for me. Definitely less expensive than OEM too
