Window switch flaking out

The switch for the rear passenger door in the driver door panel has started to only work intermittently. I was considering blasting it with electronic parts cleaner and seeing if that works. I did that to the turn signal switch of my Golf years ago and it worked really well. Any other suggestions beyond just replacing the switch panel with a new one?

I only have the wiring diagrams for my 2000, but assuming that the wiring is functionally the same between the two, I'd verify it is the switch that is the problem by checking if the switch on the rear passenger door is working properly. If that switch works properly, then I'd be looking at a faulty switch on the master switch panel. If that is also intermittently failing, I'd look at a broken wire in the boot, probably on the drivers door, but potentially on the rear passenger door.

The switch on the rear door works flawlessly, it's just the driver door switch that's intermittent. Noticed that there's no boot on the rear door wires, just a bundle of wires wrapped in electrical tape. Looks like someone's been in there before me.

After watching this video I took my driver switch box apart and found that the contacts were all carboned up. Cleaned them up with some sandpaper and electrical contact cleaner and it seems to be working again. There are some finicky bits in there for the auto down window control and the window control lock button but I was able to get it all back to working order.
