Transmission Skid plates increase transmission temperature?

Just installed a PML extended aluminum transmission pan. It still fits up enough that skid plates will cover it.

Now that the extended one is hanging a little deeper I am concerned it can get hit when on bumpy dirt roads.

Question:
For those who installed transmission skid plates. Have you seen an increase in transmission temperatures?

Has anyone thermal wrapped the crossover exhaust pipe to reduce heat near the transmission?

I doubt you would hit the transmission on bumpy dirt roads, and even if you did it probably wouldn't do much damage its not like you're sliding over a rock.

Do you have a transmission cooler? If so along with the aluminum pan, you're fine.

It'll be fine.

I'm not in a 4th gen, but in my 5th gen I've noticed no difference with the new, full skid plates. I monitor trans temp when pulling my trailer and just got back from a trip to Northern Alabama (from Southern Louisiana)... no difference between before/after on trans temps.

That is what I wanted to hear. Thank you for your real world experience.

Interesting...

I just made a set of skid plates for a V8 4Runner. I made sure to put some vent holes by the cats to help decrease heat build up.

It seems I can’t upload photos from my phone though....

Those home brewed skids look way better than what I have in mind. Is metal working your profession?

Not really, just a hobby.

What area of the county are you in? I am looking for a few locals to try another set on.

I am near Los Angeles so not too close to Texas. Would love to try one but I am trying not to spend a whole bunch on skids at the moment.

Shoot me a PM and we can discuss if you are interested, I wouldnt mind helping someone out, and helping prove the design.

The good news is these were made for a V8 4 runner, I think the V6 has a shorter cross member span.
