Extremely low 2021 4Runner stock

I regularly watch the inventory of numerous models of vehicles and the most recent observation I’ve seen is that there are hardly any 2021 4Runners on the lots. The largest dealership in the area only has used models on the lot.
They usually have access to well over 100 new 4Runners on a typical day.
Most other model stock is extremely low as well. It’s odd that this just came to an abrupt halt given that they were fairly plentiful during the pandemic.
To contrast my observation there are plenty of 2021 Wranglers available in my area.

Can confirm. 4 local dealers, 3 have zero new stock, and 1 claims to have one new in stock (Off-Road Premium for $45k)... they also have a used '21 SR5 (non premium) with 46 miles (forty six total) for $50k.

Yikes!!!

Definitely seems like production has been halted:
2021 TRD Pro Production Halted?

Local dealer has about 12 Toyotas in stock. No 4Runners. No Tacomas, No Tundras. Usually has about 50 of those in stock.
Only a few of the other passenger cars.

Global supply chain is going to take a while to recover... strap in for a weird, wild ride.

That said, I'll sell my 2020 TRD Off Road with 20k miles, Kings, Gobi ladder, UPTop Rack, Baja Designs light bar, ditch lights, rear chase lights, SP controller, Fifteen52 wheels... for like $60k. I'm totally kidding, mostly. Haha.

Dealership told me last week the RAV4 factory is currently shut down, Sequoia and Tundra are on hold due to global chip shortage, and supply chain trying to recover for all other models.

Dealer in HB has zero new 4Runners, tundras or Rav hybrids
Used prices are crazy

We are moving to Hawaii from Japan and I had been checking the stock of the dealer there online and for a while like you said, they seemed to have a lot available. But suddenly they vanished. I called to get on a waitlist for one to arrive and luckily someone backed out of a deal on a TRD ORP and we ended up buying it over the phone. We can’t wait to pick it up next week.

Same here. Haven't seen a new 4Runner on the lot in a while. Used prices are insane. Local dealer has a 2015 limited with 35K and just raised the price on it from $35k to $39k.

I was at my local dealer yesterday to buy a part and there was one new TRD Off Road. A salesman was talking to a young guy out by the truck. I was just wondering what that one will go for. This was the same dealership that was asking 10K over MSRP for a Pro back in January. I felt like yelling to the potential buyer not to do it. I feel so lucky that I got my Pro at MSRP right before this craziness started.

I checked the Boston region this morning and normally that have a couple hundred or more now they are down to around 50.

When I traded in my 2019 Limited for a 2021 GX 460, they gave me $800 less than I paid for it 2 years ago.

If you're thinking of making a move from a 4Runner to something else, now is DEFINITELY the time!

Just follow the money - the global chip shortage overall is part one, but then look at prioritization of where existing chip supply goes. Virtual anything requires them and with the uptick last year in remote-healthcare, school and work it was an easy call to make. For chip producers, their most margin can be gained from the tech sector, so they will easily reroute existing inventory to support those margin rich markets.

Autos come in toward the rear, low margin and large demand make it hard for them to catch up after all of the above. Throw in that more and more vehicles are being dependent on them and that only two companies can actually produce 5nm and you have a supply issue and a ridiculous auto resale market.

Toyota Suspends Production Of Its Best-Selling Model Due To COVID

That was a month ago. Current situation?

In addition to the general worldwide semiconductor shortage, and auto manufacturers canceling chip orders early in the pandemic, and chip makers shifting production to consumer electronics semiconductors, there was a fire in a Japanese plant that makes 2/3 of all the chips used by the auto industry. Now that auto demand has increased OEMs are SOL until automotive chip production ramps up again. Don’t expect it to happen very soon. Hold onto your existing 4Runner.

Here’s an article that explains it well
The chip shortage: Why it'''s happening and when car and PlayStation 5 supply chains will bounce back.
