Had to go back to using the plastic oil filter housing
 

Back in 2020 when I did my first oil change on my '19, I installed a Toyota metal housing. Despite not being thrilled with how it seated with that "feel" that it was " tight enough", it was fine and didn't leak. This past June I did another oil change, buttoned everything up and again no leaks. Until yesterday when I found a small puddle of oil. The oil was coming from the housing-to-base seat. I checked that it was still tight to spec, then dropped the housing, checked and cleaned up the threads, installed a new filter and all o-rings, torqued to spec and it began to weep as soon as I fired her up. Befuddled, I dropped the metal housing, installed the OE factory plastic housing, made a short drive and she's dry as a bone.

Anyone else have issues with the metal housing? The metal housing held up fine for one year through that 1st oil change as well as nearly 3 months after the 2nd. Strange...

That's strange. I've had the metal housing for a little over a year now and haven't had a problem. Have changed oil 2-3 times now and no leaks.

Other than recommending use original o-ring in proper groove I can't add anything to your solution options.

Make sure you have an OEM Toyota metal filter and if you do, make sure the gasket is installed properly and in the correct location.

The metal housing is OE Toyota as are the filters and o-rings. The odd thing is that this one began leaking about 3 months after a second oil change using it as well as after putting a fresh, lightly oiled o-ring in (properly) and ensuring everything was clean.

Replacing the plastic housing with a metal one is fixing a problem where there isn’t one.

Ok, reason for me posting this is because this has been discussed in previous post and almost all if not all were non OEM parts from a dealership and bought online without Toyota markings or o rings in the wrong place.
I would inspect it carefully.

For me the “problem” was how expensive the plastic one was compared to the metal one after the dealer refused to own up to their mistake.

Just changed mine last week with OEM filter and o-ring (2019). Never the slightest hint of any oil leakage around the metal housing. Attachment 386743

I did my first oil change about a month ago. I had bought the cheapest housing removal tool with decent ratings. The plastic housing was on so tight, I actually broke the tool. I then ordered the motive X removal tool and put the 27mm socket on the impact wrench to take it off. I didn't realize it during the process, but I had cracked the plastic housing and had a major leak. I needed the vehicle back in service so went and bought the Dorman version. Of course, as the reviews state, I've had a very slow leak over the last couple of weeks. I ordered the OEM metal housing and it literally was delivered earlier today. Now I read this thread...

Ignore most of what this guy says.

Hasn’t been a problem on mine either. I only give it a snug once it is all the way on and stops. Seems very odd that it weeps past the gasket and threads like that constantly. Try another one or back to the plastic I guess.

No issues with mine, as of 3 months. I cracked my plastic, wasn’t going to pay $170 for the plastic.

Here is a copy from my 2014 build. It was on my T4R for 4 years until it was totaled and it never leaked.
Have one on my 21, doesn’t leak.
