Need new front wheel bearings

I need to replace my front wheel Bearings.

Blue pit seems to be the standard for quality but what is available for a cheaper price?

I see a lot on eBay for considerably cheaper that state they use koyo bearings and a dorman hub.

anyone use any of the eBay sellers products and are you satisfied?

Thanks

I searched for information on Dorman hubs in 2018 and decided to not to buy one if I ever needed it. This Google search: "4runner dorman hub forums" will find forum posts on this site and other websites. Wheel bearing issue lists a number of places that sell hub assemblies, including some with Dorman hubs. I suggest searching (or posting) on the 3rd and 4th generation forums too. I saw a post where a guy bought two inexpensive hub assemblies and carries one as a spare. Personally, I would not buy brake, suspension or other critical parts made in China over the past 18 months for any vehicle.

How many miles did you get out of your original (OEM) bearings? Do you want / need to get that many miles out of the next set? If not, but the eBay / Amazon junk that includes sub-par quality (or fake) bearings and a cheap Dorman hub.

If youwant the good stuff, go over to TacomaWorld.com and message @05Taco4x4 . He sells top quality pre-assembled bearng / hub sets. Like most things, you get exactly what you pay for.

He uses Dorman hubs or whatever he can get. Just uses better bearings.

Correct. My bad. Fortunately, the hub isn't nearly as important as the bearing. When I had my Tacoma bearings replaced, I went with 100% OEM Toyota parts including all the seals. The new owner can look forward to another 100,000 trouble free miles as far as the front bearings go.

05Taco4x4 has shipped a lot of hubs in 2021. Many have posted positive remarks on the fast shipping. Every customer appears to be very satisfied when I looked over the last 11 pages of posts. 05Taco4x4 says he uses NSK bearings which are packed with more grease than KOYO. Occasionally, someone receives a tight hub that slides on about 2+ inches and stops. 05Taco4x4 recommends using the old axle nut to overcome the tight fit, remove that nut and install the new nut he supplies. Perhaps a few Dorman hubs are tight fitting, but OK if fully seated. Evidently, 05Taco4x4 offers a very good product and service.

The Bluepit assy with all Toyota parts will set you back almost $340ea, which is a good price if you were planning on going all OEM.

The OEM Toyota hub retails over $200 alone. Same with the bearings.

With all the positive feedback on Taco’s hubs, I’d feel reasonably confident with those.

I probably would have gone with one of the options 1000MPH lists if I'd done more research at the time I replaced mine. That said, I have over 80K on a set of dorman assembled hub/bearings off Amazon with no issues (with the added stress of spacers too). Another datapoint to consider.

how many miles are people getting from the originals before failure?

I have about 106k on my 2016 and everything seems fine. But I've got a cross country trip coming up next winter and was wondering if I should replace beforehand.

I work at a dealership and 100,000 miles seems to be where they start to go. I got 116,000 out of the originals on my Tacoma.

I have ~116,000 miles on a stock 2011 Trail. No symptoms yet. I only have about 400 miles of forest road driving around Flagstaff.

Thanks for all the awesome responses!

I’ve put 192k on the original wheel bearings. The right wheel bearing just started to make a very low-key hum and the left bearing is still fine. Nevertheless, they’re both getting replaced soon and when I decide what parts I’m going with I will let you all know.

Happy trails and thanks again!

Aww crap! I guess I better get a couple soon to have them on hand for when I need ‘em.
Not like stuff’s getting cheaper anyways.

Rockauto has Beck/Arnley for $106. Not sure if that's good or bad.
