Adding Panoramic View Monitor

Last week I test drove a SR5 Premium that had the $600 “premium package” installed. This package includes the Panoramic View Monitor which has downward facing cameras in each side mirror and a front-facing camera in the grill. This gives the ability to see forward, sides, and a birds-eye view. I bought a different color SR5 that didn’t have the PVM installed but the sales guy said it could be installed anytime though the parts department. I called the parts department today and the guy said he didn’t see a part number for the PVM. I assume there are a few parts needed for this add-on. Does anyone happen to know what parts are needed? I guess mirror cameras, front camera, and some module that plugs everything into the stereo. Anyone have access to part numbers?

I just looked it up, on the Pro model, they refer to it as a Multi Terrain Monitor.

TRD Pro models come equipped with Multi Terrain Monitor (MTM), which allows the driver to check the immediate surroundings for potential obstacles by simply pressing a button to display front-, rear- and side-camera views on the 8-inch multimedia screen. MTM is available on TRD Off-Road Premium.

The TRD Pro grade gains the standard Multi-Terrain Monitor with a series of cameras providing surrounding views of the trail.

Likewise, the top-of-the-line Platinum trim gets the Panoramic View Monitor. Essentially, it provides the same views as the Multi-Terrain Monitor but for crowded parking lots.

fyi a lady in her rav4 that had birds eye hit my 4runner while she relied on the birds eye system entirely to parallel park. Luckily i was standing outside my vehicle as it happened and was extremely slow and low impact.. i dried my tears with the 500 dollar settlement

Clearly she was waiting to hear from a little birdie!

Yes. There’s a video on YouTube demonstrating both even though they’re basically the same thing. PVM is an option on the SR5 called the “premium package”. But my question is about whether I can add this to my SR5 or does it have to be installed at the Toyota factory?

Is this a 2022 feature?

I think it’s too new to answer that.

BTW, could you post links to videos?

It's factory option PO for 22( Called the Premium Plus package ,not Premium) that includes the MTM(360) camera system. I have a new 22 ORP that has it and was hard to find one with that option . Matter of fact, I flew to San Antonio to buy it at Universal Toyota!

I haven't found any 2022 parts diagrams out yet and local dealer parts dept didn't even have access yet, to be able to see/compare wiring harnesses.
I doubt you could add it as the factory wiring harnesses are most likely different for the extra cameras and switch. Toyota doesn't include unused wiring/connectors on their wiring harnesses, at least on the five 4runners I've owned.

You should be able to see if you have the front camera wiring harness and connector as it's right above the radar rectangle in the front lower grill.

Sales guy is probably referring to the oem dash cam /harness which is a port
installed option and can be added later .(OEM Camera part#PK6A3-33HT1 with a PK6A4-33HW1 wiring harness)google it!

Test driving in San Antonio - that’s funny. I test drove at North Park Toyota here in San Antonio. The PVM is great and I love the fact that it has the dynamic pathway projection lines that follow your steering wheel.

Unused wiring harnesses - I was hoping this would be like the light sensor extra wiring under the plug in the center of the dash. The wiring is there and a $7 sensor can be added to automatically adjust ambient lighting in the cab when the headlights are on.

The sales guy was definitely talking about adding the PVM after the purchase (not a dash cam). He and I talked about the PVM at length. But, he was trying to make a sale and, well, you know...

It is probably too new for parts guys to even know what I’m talking about, even though this setup has been on Camrys and Tacomas for a couple of years. I guess I’ll poke around under the hood and in the mirrors to see what’s there. Even if there’s unused wiring, I may not even be able to buy the parts. I was hoping someone on the forum had already solved this. I may be a pioneer here.

I may just install the Anytime Backup Camera and call it a day... it doesn’t have side views, birds-eye view, or dynamic path projection, though. I can get the dynamic path projection by installing an aftermarket stereo and iDataLink Maestro (I did this in my 2017 4Runner), but not sure I want to go to that expense for the dynamic backup lines... and I kinda like the stereo in the 2022.

Many thanks again to those who responded. If you happen to come across new info, please post it.

I just happen to have the bumper and grill off so here are some pics of the front 2022 wiring harness connector to see if you possibly have it. It's a 13 pin connector that connects the radar sensor and camera.

The only toyota part numbers I found on the lower grill assembly are 53112-35110 and 53114-35060. One comes up as just the bare lower grill and one I can't find but maybe it's the whole assembly.

Pics show the connector and and backside of the camera/radar sensor.

I got one of the last '21 models, I wonder if I could make this work for mine, I'll have to see if the wiring is there, I doubt it though, although I'd like to have this feature, but not enough to trade it in for a '22 model, lots of hassle there.

I watched the video, and it looks possibly like the mirror camera is in place of where the puddle lights were…..
Is this true on your vehicle?

Wassup Saker...

They still have the puddle lights and the cameras are just outboard of them. Looks like the puddle light is a 194 or t10 bulb and in need of a LED upgrade?

Hey @harper7 ,

First, I hope you have been well sir!

Thanks for the reply with photos.
It’s good to see that, that part of the trim has just been modified and now it also houses the camera.
I’m sure someone will figure this out once it is out for a while.
Also, the location of the radar in the newer grill has been moved down.

Thanks again!

GearJunkie88 11-03-2021 10:20 PM

@harper7

Thanks for the photos! It looks like the front radar rectangle is lower on the grill than mine. I suspect it was moved down to provide room for the front-facing camera. The bottoms of the mirrors are also different (obviously... because they have cameras in addition to the puddle lights). So, adding panoramic view monitor retrospectively looks to be at least 5 parts: a lower grill piece that moves the radar rectangle to the bottom of the grill, the front camera, driver side mirror with camera, passenger side mirror with camera, and some module that manages the images from all the cameras. You were wise to shop around for a 4runner with this already installed. I never should’ve taken the sales guy’s word that it could easily be installed later. Bummer...
