Rear Wiper Adapter
 

I've been looking to replace my rear wiper with something better than the OEM wiper for a while, but as anyone who has replaced the rear wiper knows, it screws on to the arm rather than using a traditional mounting method like the standard hook mounting on the front wipers. In looking around for another option, I've seen people mention using the Anco 48-08 adapter, but I've been unable to find it in stock. While looking around for it I did find an adapter made by Bosch which doesn't state that it fits a 3rd gen 4runner, but based on reviews people had used it successfully. For $10, I decided to give it a shot. This is the part I ordered. It fits, and was easy to install. Just unscrew the old blade, and screw the adapter in in it's place. Then you can use any hook style wiper blade on the rear. I went with this one. The only problem I ran into is that the new blade has a latching cover which goes over the hook for extra security. The clearance for getting the wiper onto the adapter doesn't work for that, but I was able to pop the cover off, mount the blade, and then pop the cover back on. So far I'm pretty happy with the new blade, it does a much better job of fully clearing the rear window than the OEM one which had inconsistent contact.

Thanks for this post. I also went with this adapter, only found that the tension spring on the original doesn't work with the new adapter. Now the blade is floppy when its in parked position.

Do you have this issue or is it something on my end?

Do you mean that when the blade is down it bounces around as you are driving because the spring isn't pulling it tight to the rear of the car? I'd bet that is more a function of the blade than of the adapter, but I'll definitely pay attention and report back.

I used that adapter on one of my previous 4runners and it worked well and I did not see any bouncing. My current 4runner will need a new blade come spring ( after ice and snow are gone) and will go this route. Last I looked , the adpater and a non special blade was cheaper then the toyota blade alone, and then after the first install and adapater purchace it gets gets cheaper. I have read of others that have taken a regular blade and made the rubber fit into the yota special blade, but never have tried that myself.

There are links to both the adapter and the blade I used in my original post. I know that it is possible to buy just the OEM rubber and replace the rubber portion only rather than the entire blade. I've done it once on an old corolla, and I never want to deal with that again.

Jason, don't think it's on your end.

I've used the adapter on a previous 4runner and noticed a bit extra flop using the adapter.

For my current 4runner I bought a 13" blade and carefully swapped just the rubber blade and both stainless steel stringers to the factory mount.

It's doable. Just go slow and careful.

Will be buying the standard Bosch mount and replacing the Toyota mount for the future.

Any reason you left off the little arm slider? I just replaced mine, so I have that part number handy: 85247-35010

I left it off because it wasn't on mine when I bought the car, and I didn't even realize it was a thing until your post. How do the 3 pieces fit together? Does the wiper sandwich between the arm and the slider?

Yup, just like that. Arm on bottom, wiper in the middle, slider on top.

Did the part come with new screws?

good eye.....maybe that is what is causing his looseness that he talked about.
