Help with "max" 4runner height?
 

I have a stock 2020 4Runner - Canadian TRD Off-Road.

I have stock size 265/70-17 Falken WildPeak A/T3W which I believe are marginally taller than OEM.

Trying to plan out for potential max height and if I am going to have potential garage issues.

I haven't measured, but I'm seeing stated stock height of 70"

If I got a standard 2" lift, does that indeed mean that sitting still/slow rolling up driveway I'm going to be 2" taller?

So 72"...

A lot of the low profile roofracks I am seeing sit marginally higher than the shark fin, so let's just add another 1"?

So 73"...

I don't think I'd be going higher than 285s... so another 1"?

So 74"...

I understand mounting things of the roof rack - especially roof box - would dramatically increase height. Don't love it but am okay with removing things as needed.

So at 74" that's about 6'2"... Is that right - anything else I should be taking into account for max height of 4runner?

The stock 4Runner is "raked", meaning the front is lower than the rear. Most lifts reduce or eliminate that rake, calling them "leveling" kits. Thus the front is lifted more than the rear. An advertised 2" lift is really only 2" in the front, and 1" in the rear. Thus the lift at the highest point (the rear shark fin antenna) is more like 1" than the advertised 2".

For example, I have the Rough Country 2.5" leveling kit which is 2.5" front and 1" rear lift. After installation, the front ended up closer to 3", but the rear was only 1" lift. Thus the highest point (the shark fin antenna) went up only 1".

What with cargo, tire inflation pressures, and other variables, I'm not sure a difference of an inch or two really has any meaning.

I think my garage door clearance is around 6’8”. I don’t know if that’s considered standard or not. My 4R is way too tall to fit, but the one-car garage is already full anyway.

If you’re just at ~6’2” now, you shouldn’t have a problem. You’re not forgetting anything that needs to be taken into account.

What is way too tall? Where are you maxing out? The roof rack? The spare tire on top? Or when you carry other stuff?

With taller tires, a suspension lift and a body lift (over 5” total), I’m at ~6’3” to the top of the factory roof rack (nothing on top). With nothing at all on the roof, I could fit in my garage if there was any room.

My Yakima roof rack brings it up to ~6’10”, the offroad lights bring it up to ~7’1”, and the tire on top brings it up to ~7’4”. A cargo bag on the rack would make the height even higher than 7’4”.

My T4R is sitting on an OME 3" lift (net gain 2.25-2.5"), LT 285/70R17 Wildpeaks (E Load) and has a Prinsu full length roof rack. With the rack completely bare I easily fit in and out of my garage which has a 7ft tall opening. When I mount my recovery boards on maxxtrax pins to my rack, I have 1" of clearance and can still use my garage, but I have to mount my boards on the front half of the rack as they will hit the door if mounted on the rear of the rack as its slightly taller in the rear.

Loaded with a gun case I'm 7ft 2" height (no go for garage door unless I open the case which makes it 6ft 11"). I only use my garage for maintenance so this is ok for me.

Loaded with my RTT I'm about 7ft 10" so I no longer even fit in most wand wash carwashes in my area.
