Toyota parts Backorder Blues
So my trans finally started making the high pitched whines and then the marbles on and off, so I knew the end was very near; 341,843 trouble free miles. Drove it to my mechanic buddy's house across town, barely made it, turned off on me twice, I guess the pieces get stuck in TC and it locks up engine. Would turn back on and keep going.
Now the bummer part. I want a Toyota remanufactured trans, so went to another buddy in the parts biz. He says its on backorder and will be 2-3 months, but the price w/b $2900. I'm also looking for many suspension bushings, lbjs, 99 springs/struts and they too are here and there on backorder. I just hope I can get it back running before hunting season starts in fall. |
I’d try partsouq for everything but the transmission

Funny, this afternoon I got my package from Toyota and it only had 1 of the 3 things I ordered - something I already waited a month for because it was all backordered.
It's only going to get worse with the current situation in California; with Teamsters choking the ports and whatnot. |
Beautiful 4Runner
Love your 4Runner.
i recently sold my 2001 Limited with 240K and original everything. Sold it bc one of my daughters got hit in her 2016 4Runner and rolled it all the way over and back on tires. The side airbags saved her life. Bought a 2020 4Runner and love it. But it’s not my 2001 BTW. I’m new here. Can you advertise parts for sale here? I have a brand new set of drilled and slotted front disc for the 2001 I would love to sell a set of pads too. They last forever. Only fits 16” wheels Parts are a real problem in every industry. I may have to ground a $6 mil Citation bc we can’t get main tires. BO for 5 weeks so far |

Yes all supply chains are empty. Our freight movement across the nation is slowing down. I am expecting rough times ahead. I am also hoping I am wrong.
I am noticing lots of parts are getting harder to come by and or backorder big time. Toyota like everything else realizes on world supply chain from all areas. If you look at the local dealerships are empty. I actually own more 4 runners then my local dealer has on the lot. :( So with that said. We may have to resort to using used parts for a while to keep the rigs running. If it chains continue to break down that maybe our only path. Sent from my SM-A505U using Tapatalk |

Haha that's a good one - I mostly stare at the critters like 99.99% of time, I really enjoy watching nature twice a day for a 3+ hour stretch! |
Hope you get that sorted out.
I replaced my original transmission from a used florida trans, and it's been going strong for 5 years now, touching wood. But really hope you get the toy remanufactured, it's really the best choice. --- for the suspension bushing, have you looked at these? energy... They sell as kits. --- as for the lower ball joints, there are a few oem genuine toyota kits on ebay like this Toyota 1996 - 2002 4Runner Lower Ball Joint Kit Set Genuine OEM OE | eBay --- as for suspension: for the rear springs, I went with OME heavy duty, rear monroe shocks and front monroe strut set, both in the top quality I could get a my Car Quest auto part. very satisfied so far and pretty sure every of these components are readily available still. So everything beside the trans, you should be able to get and do the work while waiting for the big part |
